Hi Lynda, I was thinking of you the other day! :-)

With TR, reductions are earned when the BG drops below 50(2.8) on a human meter. I think it's possible that she has dipped below 50 but not been caught by a test.

You've shot the full dose previously when she was 77. 70 is more or the same with meter variance.

Even if you shoot a reduced dose our skip a shot, the depot will affect the first part of the cycle, so please do get some tests tonight.

Hi Bhooma,
I have wondered the same that there has probably been occasions where she had dipped to 2.8 and I have missed it. I usually feed her a snack at around +3 or +4 and then again at +5 or +6 so I have wondered if that is keeping her from dipping too low where she otherwise would have.
For that reason I was actually thinking about posting in here just for some advise on how her numbers are looking , but just hadnt got around to it yet

It's possible that she is dipping below 50 and bouncing from there. There are no tests on some days and not enough on others where she is dropping. You could stay with the 0.5U for a few days and see how she does in it.

I have a different take on this. I would stick with .75 provided you can test at least two times every cycle and at least an extra test if you see under 70 early in the cycle. If not possible try the reduction. It’s required to get 2 tests every cycle with TR.

Thankyou, so I would need to do at least 2 tests between each shot plus the amps and pmps test, so at minimum 6 tests a day ?

The minimum is amps/pmps and one other test each cycle. More tests would be needed only if you are seeing lower numbers. We find lantus onsets around +2-3, sometimes earlier, sometimes later. So if you get a +2-3 that is a lot lower than the amps/pmps, another test around +6-7 would be good to see how low the the bg dose is taking Marnie because the dose needed is based upon how low a dose takes her.

I have been trying to do this ,but admittedly I have missed a few mid cyle tests during the am cycle if i felt her amps was a bit higher and in no danger of dropping dangerously low .
I am just starting to feel that maybe I keep propping her levels up to a safe level by giving her snacks of LC food at +3 and +6 during each cycle

Feeding lc is not propping her up. Small snacks help level the bg. If you were having to feed hc that would be different. Most people do feed small 3 small meals each cycle. Some even free feed. Most pick up food 2 hours before insulin so tge amps/pmps is not food influenced. If you want remission you need to keep her in normal bg most of the time.

Thanks for your help,if I continue with .75 are there any other signs to look out for that might point to her needing a reduction ? How will I know that she hasnt dropped below 50 and I missed it ?

We only reduce when we see that they have gone under 50. If surfing green you want to see them stay up at least in the 60’s without food for two hours. If you look at other peoples spreadsheets you will see cats often hover around 50 but don’t drop under. That’s how TR works and lantus is best because you get nice flat green cycles. Tge more time there the better chance the pancreas will recover and the best chance for remission.

BTW please add TR to your signature.
