This morning I almost tried to draw insulin out of the calipers instead of the pen. And then I went to throw away the testing strip & lancet with the Lantus in my other hand and almost tossed the Lantus.
It's just one of those days...

Anyone have a MUST for Thanksgiving?

Mine is Cook's Illustrated pumpkin pie. You cook the yams and pumpkin and then press them through a food mill, which results in the smoothest, silkiest pumpkin pie. It's really worth all the extra effort.

Your pie sounds yummy, Joey. I never thought of yams in pumpkin pie. I have to admit - I am "no" cook. I buy my pies (pecan and pumpkin) from the local grocery store. My mom and I will be having my brother's family over but things are a little different this year as mom can't really do anything in regards to cleaning and cooking :arghh:. My brother and his family are bringing the majority of the food. I just have to clean the house, set the table, make the stuffing and the turkey gravy and create the ambiance. I don't really have a must other than the turkey. It is the only time of the year that we eat it (poor turkeys - I should be a vegan). I'm still trying to figure out how to perfect the gravy. Happy Thanksgiving, Joey!

I don't have Thanksgiving musts. But on Thursday I'm hosting my family and I'm making a spatchcocked turkey, green beans with caramelized onions, carrots cooked in coconut oil served with mint and lime, fresh herb stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I'm making the cranberry sauce now!

My husband always smokes the turkey, comes out amazing (and I'm not a huge fan of smoked food). Well, I should say I do all the work and he mans the smoker :joyful:

His family is Lebanese, so the stuffing is Hushweh - there are as many variations of it as there are homemade pasta sauce variations lol Before FIL passed he taught me, so now I'm in charge (running joke that the white girl in the family makes the Syrian stuffing, as they call it). This recipe is very close to what I do, but I use lamb chops as it's more tender and better flavor. Can also substitute beef, some people like to add cinnamon, cardamom, allspice.

When we roast a turkey, it goes in during the last hour or so. When smoking, I just fully cook it in a pan.

MIL takes care of just about everything else - store bought pies, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce.

I love cooking and hosting, so some day when kids are older I'll attempt some more stuff.

OMG, I adore Lebanese food! I've never met Middle Eastern food I didn't like. I've bookmarked that recipe now so I can make it too for a weekend dinner or something, turkey or no turkey!

Such good food! It's even good meatless, I make it as a side for dinner fairly often.

Downside is I went to the store tonight, and pine nuts have quadrupled in price! They really make the dish, must have. They cost me the same as the lamb!
