Yesterday I reduced Phoenix's insulin from 9.5 units to 8.5. He is still going too low. I have had to feed him at +11.5 because he was down to 57. I have again been up all night giving him honey and fancy feast hc. Again, he has eaten 2 cans of hc and at least a tablespoon of honey.

I was wondering if I need to wait 2 hours since his shot was due in 40 minutes? I am again considering half a dose 4.5 units or reduce it to 7.5 units. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wow! He is in a mood to race down the ladder. I am hoping he will head up from here and give you a break. What did you feed at +11.5?
You can do a token shot of 4U or skip the shot to drain that depot.

At 11.5, I fed Phoenix another half can of fancy feast hc and some honey. It is now +11.75 and his BG has risen to 92.

Since I fed Phoenix honey at +10 and fancy feast hc and honey at +11.5, do I need to wait 2 hours before giving his insulin? I think I would like to give a token dose of 4 units instead of skipping.

Would you rather just skip the shot, Susan?

I would skip to drain the depot.

Isn’t he also a very large cat? I thought that’s also why is dose is higher.

I hate to skip a dose but I believe I will. Since I would have to shoot 2 hours later than usual, I would have to stay up late. If I skip, I can give his insulin injection at his regular time.
I hate having to bother you all the time with my questions but the last several weeks have been very unusual. I believe I will decrease his insulin to 7.5 tonight and see how he does.
Thank you for your help, Bhooma.

Yes, something does seem to have changed. And it is no bother. We are here to help.

You can shoot at your usual time tonight and try 7.5U. Since you are skipping, see if he will stay up with LC. Without any new insulin, he should start heading up.

Thank you, I haven't given him any more carbs since +11.5. Phoenix has always been on a raw meat diet. I just fed him some cornish hen and his raw pancreas. The only time he gets any carbs is when his BG drops low.

I am wondering if the raw pancreas has anything to do with it. When he had pancreatititis, I read an article that said eating raw pancreas helps them digest their food and gives the pancreas time to heal. Phoenix gets a small amount of pancreas at every meal. He has been on it for over a year now. Just a thought as to what could cause this sudden drop in his BG.
