After draining the depo a bit and surfing the green last night, we begin today with a 248. Not bad since he hasn't seen green in some time. He is eating well but preferring his kibble over the FF Chicken Feast [about 1/4 can] left over from last night. He ate about 2T Dr. Elsey's salmon/chicken kibble mixed. I added 1/16t psyllium husk powder to the FF but since he hasn't eaten much of the leftovers--maybe half--I don't know how much good it will do. He is having his customary "after dinner drink" of warm water poured into his food bowl but has otherwise not shown the thirst of rising BG.

There were approx. 3 poops over the past 24 to 36 hours but none occurring this morning. He had one overnight pee and a mid-breakfast pee this morning where he was backed up to the entrance of his jumbo sized litter box to the point where the beginning of his stream flowed over the side. Fortunately, his litter box is surrounded by pee pads and I was nearby to catch the stream in my trusty cottage cheese container for ketone testing. No evidence of ketones.

So, onward in this ever-changing FD journey.

Looks like the long-awaited bounce may finally be here. Also, the depo is refilling, reloading for more late night drama. The real drama, though, was watching the hypo condo happening nearby. Sad, frightening, and sobering to think how quickly and easily situations can head south. I pray for @ThailandKitty and her mom. I would be absolutely wasted with shock and fear if it were happening to Bama Kitty and me.

Good morning, Gina. You had an exciting day, yesterday. Nice greens but not something you want to see on SLGS. I'm glad to hear that Bama is eating well. Too bad you can't get him off the dry but I totally understand. When they don't want to eat wet you have to give them something they will eat. I bought some Dr. Elsey's shortly before I had to put Susie down. I was hoping she would eat it since her appetite was failing. She used to love dry food (pre diabetes) but she wasn't interested. My new little guy, Boo, seems to like it a little. I'm still trying to get him to eat only wet food though.

Yes, our situations are similar. My Mom is 90 and she is pretty lucid for her age. I don't think she has dementia - just expected memory loss for someone her age. We got in to it last night because she doesn't eat well. She wants to sleep all morning, then she will get up and go into the kitchen, then she sits in her kitchen chair and goes back to sleep. She doesn't eat until around 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon and then wonders why she is weak and dizzy. I'm going to work on getting her up earlier and getting her to eat sooner. When Susie was alive I felt like you do. Taking care of two. Susie and my Mom. It is a good thing I am retired. Do you work?

Not a bad start for Bama today. After all those greens I would expect a higher bounce which you might see with that 299. Happy to know there was no evidence of ketones. I hope you enjoy your Monday good luck with the reduction!

Oh my God. What a horrible incidence for ThailandKitty. I hope she makes it without permanent damage. I'm so afraid to see her next post.

I’m happy Bama is eating and has been pooping. Have you considered purchasing a NovaMaxBlood ketone meter from ADW Diabetes supply. It’s well worth it not to have to stalk them to the litter box to try to get urine. The strips are expensive though The testing can be done at the same time as checking BG.

I may give that purchase some thought. I imagine it is better to catch ketones in the blood rather than wait for them to show in the urine. He's never had DKA but that's not to say he won't ever have it. I don't mind the stalk so much. Maybe he does, though. Who knows?

Speaking of litter box. The morning poop has arrived.

Yes, my mom has some memory loss--mild cognitive impairment per the neurologist--and she doesn't eat well either, frequently can't sleep, doesn't drink enough water, has stomach issues, upper respiratory allergies, fibromyalgia, and doesn't seem to learn from experience not to overdo. I, too, am retired and just recently started drawing SS which made it possible for me to spend the extra $ to get Bama on Semglee. It's not as expensive as Lantus but more expensive than Novolin N, his previous.

It is exciting to get a new fur-baby. How old is Boo? I guess it seems like starting fresh and hoping he can avoid some of the illnesses and misfortunes of past fur babies. Have a great day!

I hate that we're back to black. I guess that means the depot was virtually emptied and we're starting over again. But it could not be avoided. Can't chance a hypo. Poor Bama Kitty has had his sleep disturbed with my frequent tests and seems to be catching up today. Maybe I can get caught up on my sleep tonight. Make the best use of those bounce cycles while they occur. The active ones will be back and we must be ready.

Yeah, my Mom has four different back problems, Lymphoma, shoulder pain and like your mom does not drink enough water or eat well. She gets dizzy which is scary. We have to monitor her blood pressure. She was outside a couple of weeks ago and I went out to ask her to come back in. She stood up and started to drop to the concrete. Thank God I was able to catch her. She also has something called orthostatic hypotension (I think that is the right name) which means she has to be very careful when she stands from a lying position or sitting position because all the blood rushes from her brain down to her legs.

SSN is a live saver. I don't know where I would be without it. Thankfully, I have survivors benefits and my deceased husband had a decent paying job in aerospace since the 60s so I get a decent check. Vet bills always drain my expenses though. I always thought the Semglee was a Lantus type insulin. I'm trying to start Boo out with healthy food. I have learned so much after having a cat with CKD and then diabetes. No more Purina Indoor dry food for my cats and Temptations will be the rare treat. I'm just praying that Boo will live a long, healthy life with no serious medical issues. Losing Simon and Susie, both at age 9, was truly upsetting to me.

I agree. The bounces were welcome at times when we need to catch up on sleep.

Hooray for poop!!

I think I must have orthostatic hypotension as I get a little dizzy when I get up too fast from being on the floor with Bama. Doesn't happen at the time but I do find myself trying to lean against the wall when it happens until everything clears.

The Semglee is a Lantus type insulin--a bio-equivalent--but is much less expensive.

Be careful with the orthostatic hypotension. When you sit up give yourself some time to adjust before you stand. You do not need to feel faint and drop.
