Well we are getting worse instead of better. I’m wondering if this is new dose wonkiness or what? We can’t seem to get Max back like he was before the hypo and that reduction the vet made. This is so worrisome. Is it better to stick with the Lantus or should I go ahead and change to Levemir? I’m so stressed from this and I don’t understand. Trying to be patient. Any advice or ideas welcomed.

I forget, does he also have IAA?

Could be wonkiness, any chance he got some contraband food?

Have you checked ketones lately?

I don't think you need Levemir yet, he did see some promising numbers on Lantus...I think you just have to chase the dose up a little bit. But if his shots seem like they're stinging him, then yes probably want to think about Levemir.

Out of the 3 vets that he’s seen, nobody has wanted him tested for IAA, and I’ve asked. Frustrating. No other foods that he could have gotten into besides his regular low carb meals morning and night, but he gets a teaspoon of low carb food every so often during the day so he doesn’t vomit and another tsp in his feeder at 2 am. On the keto meter it is 0.4, and yes the Lantus has been stinging him for quite some time that’s one reason I asked for the change to Levemir. I ordered the Levemir and then all of this happened to him so I haven’t switched over to it yet, although I do have it now in my refrigerator. I think Wendy said I could switch anytime as long as I could monitor him, but with the way it is now with his numbers, I don’t know what dose to start or if I should yet. I am so overwhelmed. I know everyone is tired of hearing that, but I really don’t know how to help him.

If the Lantus is stinging I'd go ahead and switch to Levemir. It looks like you'll just need to keep increasing to get his numbers back down and that would be the case with either insulin. Hang in there. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

What dose of Levemir would I start?

We switch from Lantus to Levemir at 70% of the Lantus dose, so for Max that would be something like 6.5 units of Levemir. Some cats show an initial strong reaction to an insulin switch, so the reduction gives you some safety margin in case that happens. Most cats end up needed similar amount of Levemir and Lantus (could be a bit more or less), so if you find the reduced dose is too little, post here and we can get you fast tracked.

Okay, I plan to switch him tomorrow morning. Thank you.
