? 10/24 Eddie AMPS 16.1 Is Prednisolone getting in the way?

Here's Eddie from 10/22:

I didn't post yesterday because we were having good numbers and I was aiming to decrease to 12U this morning based on the trend and the feeling that we're seeing an impact with the SRT.

Yesterdays PMPS was 158 and +6 (2:30am) was 4.9.

Eddie gets 1.25mg Prednisolone around 9:30 at night, about 1 hour after shot. I've emailed the vet to see if I can get Pred tablets to split the dose and see if taking less at night would make a difference to AMPS. Today's is 290 so I stayed with 13u.

There is something going on with Eddie and I'm convinced the SRT is doing its job but the Prednisolone is getting in the way and so I didn't do a reduction again this morning.

This seems like a choreography of sorts and the dance steps are in blue, green and yellow. His SS tells the story.

It does look a little reminiscent of Ruby's (@PerfumedCatMom s) spreadsheet. I know splitting the pred helped for her.

The important thing is still nadir though. I'm not sure what cutoff Wendy would recommend on an AT.

One of the things I did, and big asterisk on this one - I waited for two drops below my cutoff, because he would sometimes hit one just barely under, usually on a bounce break, then not again for awhile. But if he went well under (10+ pts) my cutoff, that was immediate reduction. The asterisk being we did not do the surgery or SRT, so different situation that may or may not be a good idea in your situation. We were also around to monitor 24/7 if needed.

I also wouldn't say "pred is getting in the way". It's just another thing to be managed, no different than the tumor, IAA or any other concurrent conditions :)

Eddie is bouncing this morning. He had a longer green streak last night and he's not used to that yet.

I agree with Melissa. The prednisolone is a requirement for Eddie, you have to give it. So it's up to you to determine when best to give it based on when and how it impacts his numbers. I don't see it impacting him last night. You gave it at +1 and at +6 he was still green.

I wouldn't, I'd recommend getting a human meter. There is no conversion from an AT to a human meter and I don't have experience with an AT.

Question for you Jodey. On the US spreadsheet, some of the conversions have decimal places. Why is that? I though the automatic conversion on the US tab just rounded up or down as appropriate.

Good analogy, we call FD a "dance" and the cat is leading the steps, sometimes a slow dance, sometimes fast stepping. Thankfully Eddie has decided he doesn't need to have pink in the collection now. That's a big improvement. :)

I’m not really certain that splitting the dose has evened out Ruby’s numbers but it’s worth exploring with your vet. Ruby still is much higher during the day than she is at night despite getting her pred at AM/PM in even doses with her shot. I’ve decided not to futz with it because it actually works in our favor to have her high during the day in case both me and my partner have to work out of the house.

Hmmmm. About the AT first and the spread sheet: the AT gives numbers with a decimal and when I enter them on the SS I might be doing so before the automated conversion. That is, I just multiply by 18.

I have the AT and a whole lot of test strips ($$$) right now. Why do you recommend a human meter?

About Prednisolone: I do know Eddie must take Prednisolone and I was just wondering if taking it all at once was resulting in higher AMPS than if he would take it BiD. I know the vet won't object. He's getting used to me. I would just have to get Pred in tablet instead of capsule form (it's compounded at the pharmacy for some reason).

ABOUT RIGHT NOW: at +3, like what?? 304????

I was just about to give him lunch. Now what does this mean?

First the spreadsheet - just enter information on the World tab, it'll do the conversion for you. However, we do ask that you put numbers in your subject line in US values.

You can stick with the AT if you want. I'm just not going to give you a number to use as a reduction number. I feel comfy with 70 on a human meter, but I honestly don't know what that means on your AT. You'll have to try something as a reduction point and see if he holds the reduction. If not, tweak it.

His AMPS today was not due to prednisolone, it was the result of bouncing from last night's greens. Typically the AMPS numbers are the last to come down anyway. It's not that much of pred that he takes anyway. I get pred compounded as a chicken flavour chew treat, that I can fairly easily cut in quarters or halves.

Bounce, bounce, bounce. :banghead: What to do? Stop testing the rest of the day, take a break.

Probably more accurate to say "give Eddie a break"!

The subject line: I did it again. I know this but in my mind I'm working with the World value and forget to put US value. Sorry. I've done this so many times. Thanks for your patience. :-)
