9/29/21 Squints was HI pmps?

Squints was HI on meter at 5pm tonight. We gave 1.5, since that was originally what his dosing was supposed to be. He ate.... we rechecked at +2 and he was at 407. He is acting normal.
What is the normal protocol for a HI reading.
Feeling a little overwhelmed with all the info on here.
 
He’s bouncing from last night. All you can do is wait for it to clear. You get a break from testing tonight. Bounces can take as many as 4-6 cycles to clear. When it does clear he might have an active cycle. Shooting a larger dose tonight is not what you should have done. Dosing is based upon how low it takes your cat, not how high.

I agree with Elise that I think the best thing to do is to drop back to 1U and start over while you learn more about how Lantus works.

Have you read this "Is TR possible with a full time job"? thread? Even if you're not doing Tight Regulation, there's still some good idea's.

1.5 is definitely too much right now. It's taken him so low that his body is reacting like he was in a hypo state. He's "bouncing" high today due to the lows he was in last night. The liver releases stored sugars and hormones to bring the blood glucose back up fast. It can take up to 6 cycles for the bounce to clear so you just have to wait it out. You don't want to increase back up again due to the high "bounce" numbers!

Hang in there. I know there seems to be an overwhelming amount to learn (and there is) but let us help you. Take one step at a time. Don't try to learn everything in one night.

So tomorrow morning when i test him and if hes still HI what should I do

If he's still HI, it's still all part of the bounce. Tonight's only 2 cycles since he dropped lower than his body has probably been in a long time so I'd just give the 1U and wait for the bounce to clear. It may not take all 6 cycles but we'll know it when we see it and will point it out to you so you can understand better yourself.

He was HI this morning... we gave him 1 unit. Should I test again before I go to work
 
Sorry nobody answered you. I’m on the west coast and asleep for your amps. Always get a +2 when possible we never know when the bg will come down. I see you did that. If it had been a lot lower you would know it might be an active cycle. Still I’m the black no worries about what food to leave out while at work.

So even though hes HI and at +2 was 570... you would still leave food out.
 
Most of us do feed small mini meals during the first half of the cycle. I fed at preshot, +2 and +4-5 if higher and not needing to feed the curve. I was home until I was sure Max would not go low as I wasn’t working technically. I was helping care for my mom. Is Squints used to eating only twice a day?

Yes. Hes pretty used to being fed 2 times a day. I worry about him going too high if i feed more that that. I do give him some freeze dried treats. But we have other cats, so its hard to know how much hes eating
