Tagging ya'll bc ya'll help me regulate his insulin. I'm open to any suggestions.

I haven't posted in a while because we have been doing so well. Tuko has remained off insulin with me periodically checking his BG. He is still on Fancy Feast pate - typically 1 can in AM, 1 can at +5, 1 can at PM and 1 can at +5. Sometimes he eats all of this and sometimes he only eats about half, it just depends on the day. Today I woke up around 6:30 AM and heard him vomiting. He has thrown up plenty in his lifetime but never this much. This was a light brownish color (looked like the color of his food). I waited and only fed him 1/2 can around 11AM and had plenty of water available (which I never see him drink since we switched to wet food). He did not throw up again. I had to leave home around 2pm and was back by 4:30 and again, there's vomit in the floor (again, light brown with some hairball), much much less this time (but he only had 1/2 can to eat this AM). On Monday, he didn't have any poop in his litter box but yesterday had more than average so I feel like he should be fine as far as GI goes. I am at a loss as to why this would happen out of the blue. My only idea is I started introducing FF beef pate back into his diet. I previously used it and he seemed to vomit with that flavor so I stopped completely. For several months he hasn't had it. He always did fine with beef/liver, beef/chicken flavors so I just left the plain beef out. I only started back bc I had so much of it and I wanted to use it if I could. Last night he had chicken/liver which has lately been his favorite. And today was mixed grill for this AM. He is alert/playful/purring and acting completely normal. I do not have any nausea meds from the vet (I do have human zofran). Obviously, I won't let this go on for days but I do work tomorrow and am starting to worry more since he also threw up this afternoon. I am hesitant to take him to the vet acting as normal as he is now because I know they will want to sedate him for the exam (which I don't want to put him through the stress of unnecessarily and its a extra cost).

*I heard him him litter box - he had poop and pee (all appeared like his normal and he didn't appear to have any trouble going to the bathroom).

Any ideas or suggestions??

Thanks in advance.

Well if there was hair in it than its just am upset tummy from a hairball. I wouldn't worry about it.

See how he is over the next few days.

@JanetNJ Thanks for the reply!!

The large amount at 6:30 AM didn't have hair. The afternoon bit did. He has gagged/tried to throw up tonight and only got out 2 quarter sized bits of white foam. Whats your advice for feeding tonight? Continue to give him the normal amount? Or would it be okay to give him less? I don't want a floor of vomit in the morning but I also don't want him hungry.
I think the main reason it worried me is bc I've never seen him throw up that much and it has never lasted a whole day. Usually its once and over with.

No idea... Your call. Cats just have days like that sometimes.

Beef is a fairly common allergen for cats. Gabby would routinely vomit if I gave her beef so it may be a matter of what protein you're using. I'd try a different flavor and see if things go back to normal. If they don't, it may be a trip to the vet.

Last night I used FF chicken and divided his normal 2 cans into 4 smaller feedings. No vomiting overnight. So I did the same smaller feedings today & will see how things are when I get home.
I guess I just might not be able to use the plain beef... which I’m okay with. I sure don’t want to see him sick like that again.

The Fancy Feast Classic Beef makes Magic barf almost immediately. The Beef/Chicken version is fine, but the Beef only is a no-go.

I've had issues with Magic getting hairballs and an upset stomach so I totally understand the mess you had. My vet recommended Gerber Stages 2 Pumpkin baby food puree. He said it should help with both the hairballs and to calm his stomach. It does seem to work pretty well. Just a teaspoon when he starts having issues. Marje here suggested EZ Egg Yolk which I'm going to try - as soon as it finds it's way through USPS.

I haven’t been logging what flavor was fed on my SS bc everything was going so smooth but I know it had been at least a day since the beef. And the mess was awful in all carpet areas  of the house.
@Denver was the EZ egg yolk for hair balls or upset stomach or both?

Marje recommended the EZ Egg Yolk for the hairballs which is usually what gets Magic’s stomach so upset. Since my order is stuck somewhere in NJ, I asked my vet if there was anything he’d recommend and he recommended the baby pumpkin. He said it actually helps with both as well as diarrhea.

I TOTALLY know what mess you’re talking about. Wet cat food and carpet do not mix. Thank god I own a RugDoctor or I’d be totally screwed.

I guess I shouldn’t have complained about the carpet :banghead:
I came home to vomit on my bed... soaked down to my waterproof mattress cover... no hairball, just food. He ate a little over 1 can. I left 2 cans divided into 4 meals today. looks like he peed twice today and hasn’t pooped yet. He’s still alert/playful/purrying... I guess I’ll keep watching it for now. I used FF chicken again today since that’s what I used last night and he didn’t vomit at all overnight. But I’m at a loss of what flavor to use that may be the easiest on him.

Edit to add: his PMBG is 143... o_O

I wonder if it's FF generally that might be causing the tummy upset. There are lots of additives in FF that might be irritating his stomach, so it's not necessarily the protein. I would try a bland diet of poached chicken or pork for a few days to see if he responds better. You can't feed that long term because it's not balanced but then you can at least rule out FF as the culprit. Maybe you can change up the brand of food to say some low carb Weruva to see if that changes things.

YUK!!!! That sucks.
I'd recommend giving pumpkin a try ... it really does seem to help Magic.
