I don't know if I should give Phoenix honey and delay his AMPS. I gave Phoenix one half can of fancy feast hc at + 8 and three quarters of a can of fancy feast hc at +9. He then threw up most if it either by eating too fast or too much.

Clearly, I need to reduce his insulin. Should I give him some honey or hold and see if he holds at 61?.

So he was 101 at +10 and is +61 at +11.25 or so? I think it is 2 hours since the last HC?
Do not give honey. Let us see if he stays up at AMPS.

ETA: You needn't feed more than a spoon or so of food to bump up their numbers. Feeding too much makes them too full to eat if you need them to later in the cycle. And also scarf and barf!

Ok, I am checking again in a few minutes and thanks for the advice on the food.

I know we are allowed to move their injections forward or back up to 20 minutes. Would it be okay to give his AMPS 20 minutes early?

Great. Are you taking a reduction?
Yes, but I am going to wait until this evening at his PMPS to reduce his insulin. The reason is because no matter how low he is in the morning, he usually
goes up to the 300s in the afternoon. He eats more during the day.
I am going to reduce his insulin to 11.50 tonight and from then on. That is a .25 reduction.

Please help! Bhooma, I should have listened and reduced Phoenix's dose this morning. He was at 89 BG at +4 and I gave Phoenix a few tablespoons of f.f hc. Then he dropped to 81. I checked again at +5 and Phoenix BG dropped to 31.

I have given him 2 chicken hearts covered in honey and will check again in a few minutes.

Well, don't feel too badly. With a depot of 11.75 you may have been in for a low number(s) today anyway - even if you had reduced. You're doing a great job and getting good help!

Thank for saying that. I felt badly because Bhooma had advised me yesterday to reduce his insulin. I hated to do it because Phoenix always goes back up to the 200 - 300 range.

But Bhooma was right, that 31 gave me a real scare this morning.

Yep. 31 IS SCARY. Good job monitoring. Hope he won't zoom up much.

I've merged your two posts of the day.

Please test again within the hour of the last test. The honey could wear off and he could drop again. Also PLEASE reduce his dose by at least 0.5 units. 31 is telling you that dose is way too high and he is on such a high dose that we'd normally suggest a 1.0 unit reduction. 0.25 unit is too little a reduction.
