? Running out of levemir question

Hello all!
Tigger has been doing very well but we have a problem. I ordered his insulin (levemir) from Marks with more than enough time. However, when my order wasn't shipping, I contacted them again to check and see if they had an estimate. Apparently, the order was put in wrong by a new employee and not processed. Now with the holiday weekend, I am definitely going to run out. I have access to lantus only, from a family member. He currently gets 19u 2x a day (he is acro). Should I just do an equal switch until the levemir is able to get here? I am so upset but really have no alternative.

Would it be possible for your vet to call in a prescription to a local pharmacy for just a single pen? I had the same issue with a Marks order one time, I called around to a few pharmacies to see who would do a single pen cheapest, and asked the vet to call it in. It's obviously a bit more expensive, but I prefer to keep same insulin (especially when dealing with acro...switching to Lantus then back to Levemir you'll probably have to reduce the dose a bit, and numbers may get away from you).

No, if someone is switching between the L insulins, we suggest starting at 70% of the dose of the other L insulin. Some cats have a strong reaction to the switch, so it's a safety measure. So that would be about 13.5 units of Lantus to start. Once you get the new Levemir, you can go back to the old dose. But I'd try to get the single pen first. Maybe check the Supply Closet forum here as well, to see is someone there can get a pen to you faster.
