First let me say we’ve seen some good changes in Shasta since we started 7 weeks ago, but we’re no closer to getting him dialed in or under control than we were when we started. I know it takes patience but the stress is starting to take it’s toll on the household. One of us travels and the other is a month into a new job. So, I’m looking for input PLEASE. We’ve been trying to use the Libre device so the vet can monitor and track but we’ve not heard from them in a couple weeks. We’re also on our 5th one trying to get a curve. He is much livelier than he was just a few weeks ago. With that came an increase in his appetite. He is 15+ lbs. 3 weeks ago we struggled to get him to eat 2.5 oz of food twice a day. Today we feed him 3 oz twice a day and break it up into two meals at AMPS and PMPS and +2. He’d eat more if we’d let him. We reduced insulin .25 a few days ago (SLGS) when he dropped down to the 70’s. It says to wait 14 cycles before changing but he is 500+ with the Libre, over 460 with the Alpha and 317 with the Relion. I understand that we need to settle on a meter, which would be the Libre, but when it is over 500 we try to find out where he is really at. The last day he has been 500+ for over 4 hours. My thought on the meters is if I’m sticking him I might as well use the sample for both meters. He skyrockets mid day when he should be seeing his nadir. Since he is so high do I still need to wait the 6 more cycles to go back to 1.25? I’m off the road for the next week and we’re having “that talk” tonight about how long we “try this”. THANKS!!

Just looked at your spreadsheet. I’d go back to 1.25.

on the food…. If he’s hungry, then feed him. Most find that several smaller meals are best. I always fed 4 times a day. Just no food 2 hours prior to the preshot test.

So you feed 2 AM and 2 PM or 4 AM and 4 PM? He had sharp drops when we only fed him once which was why we went to twice. Problems is that now we see the sharp upturn with no real drop. We’ll go back to 1.25 as I think the amount is food has had an effect with the lowered amount of insulin. Thanks again. We’ll give that a whirl.

Hi... i always fed breakfast, lunch, dinner, and before bed. so i guess like 6 am, 12 pm, 6pm, 10 pm. :) If you ever want me to take a look at your spreadsheet, feel free to tag me. My cat was on prozinc for several years

Not sure how tagging works but I sure would like to see the SS. Thanks

After your last word that you type ,I always go to the next line
You would type @then the first couple of letters of the persons name you want to tag, a drop list will appear just tape on the person's name you are tagging
It has to show up blue when you are done posting
@Shasta’s dad
Try tagging me if you want to

Nice preshot this morning!
I have to agree! I’m home to monitor all day so I was comfortable giving him the 1.25. I’m about to test again in 15 minutes. I’m curious if the Libre has been adding to the frustration. It read 475 this AM when the meter read the 231. He seems comfortable with me testing his blood so on we’ll go! Thank you!

Janet is a great help! She got Starburst controlled very quickly.....gives great advice.

As a Libre user myself I want to point out some things I've learned....since you're able to see the entire cycle you can do Modified Prozinc Method (known as tight regulation with other insulin) fairly easily if someone is around to add food/steer if needed. The libre won't always line up with Relion spot checks (meter variance and all) but for my cat on her current Libre it reads about 20 points lower when she is in the double digits. As a result it mostly is under 60 on the Libre when she is actually closer to 90 on the Relion. This likely varies per sensor so I would do a few spot checks at different levels to see how the variance seems to be.

The libre won't always line up with Relion spot checks (meter variance and all) but for my cat on her current Libre it reads about 20 points lower when she is in the single digits. As a result it mostly is under 60 on the Libre when she is actually closer to 90 on the Relion. This likely varies per sensor so I would do a few spot checks at different levels to see how the variance seems to be.

Thanks for the input. My Libres have all been 50%+ plus higher when I tested with my Relion. It’s always been lower that the Alpha. Although come to think of it in the low levels it was below the meter by about 15 points.

Our problem is that no one is usually home. It’s been a fluke the past few weeks as I have virtual trade shows which puts me in front of the computer in my home office. Again usually not the case. We usually have the AMPS and the PMPS and nothing in between.

Everyone on the site has been great. It helps alleviate the stress. I hope to be able to do the same some day…..
