08/14 Tansi AMPS 114, +6 104, PMPS 111, +6 108, +10 105

Good morning, Cindy. I'm Summer and my fur kitty is Susie. I don't believe we have met. What dosing method are you on? I didn't see it in your signature or spread sheet. Your Tansi is looking really good.

Hi Cindy

I posted last evening that it’s time to raise his dose. You might want to read yesterday’s condo and let me know your questions.

I’m advising you based on TR so it’s ok to go ahead and update the signature block as @Summer and Susie suggested. Thanks, Summer, for dropping by and welcoming new members :) The more, the merrier!

Yes, I read the condo and replied, but I must have forgotten to press post reply. Whoops!
I am fine to increase dose to .5.
Will start tomorrow because today I have to be out of the house. Tomorrow I can be home all day to monitor.
I have a couple questions when you have a moment.
How is it that TR encourages remission?
What does a non diabetic curve look like? Do they also have that nadir or does it stay pretty flat and consistent?
Many thanks as always.

You are most welcome, Marje. I'm happy to welcome our new friends!

Hi everyone
I had plans to increase Tansi's dose tomorrow since I have the day free to monitor. Now I see that I have appointments on both Mon and Tuesday that will require me to away during the noon hour which will be +6
Thinking I should delay increase until Wednesday when I am home days in a row. What would you do?

Also tonite I have to test by myself for the first time, usually I have a second pair of hands. It's pmps too. If I can't get blood, should I skip or shoot? What would you do?
Thanks ❤

It can take 6 cycles or 3 days to see the effect of a dose, so effects are not immediate. It takes some time for a new dose of Lantus to build up a depot. If you're going to be away for just +6, I would not wait to increase on Wednesday. I'd do a test before you leave for your appointment and when you return. Nadirs rarely ever line up with +6.

Regarding tonight, if Tansi doesn't have a history of DKA or ketones and you can't get a test, it's safe to skip, but hopefully someone else can confirm before then. How far away are you from PMPS time?

I would increase and just test early, see where he is headed, and steer the cycle with food, if need be.

Doses can be changed more frequently. If you are following SLGS, you hold the dose for a week even if the BG is higher than we’d like to see. Getting kitties back into remission requires we be more proactive and responsive to higher BGs.

Excellent question. The BGs will be fairly flat but will change a bit in response to eating and the release of endogenous insulin.
