I didn’t know you had hurt yourself. I am sorry. What happened? Are you on the mend? It sounds like you must be if you are planning to go camping. What kind of camping? A tent? Or an RV? Or a yurt? What? Does Squeaky go camping?
Hi Suzanne, thanks for your message!!!! Whenever I post I continue to include a joke so keep watching and I'll pop in every once in a while! Probably about once a week.
What happened is really silly. I was doing a practice campout in our "front yard" (read: condo driveway to grassy patch) to help get Squeaky used to this. Well it was late and I was tired. We have a subaru station wagon and an SUV tent which attaches on the hatch. I had Squeaky's playpen set up attached/in front of the tent. So I needed something from the back seat, but had to go around the car; I stepped over the playpen, caught my right foot on it, and went down on the sidewalk, right on my left hip. Fortunately I didn't break anything, I was back up fairly quickly but hobbling around. I ended up with a grapefruit size purple bruise and about 2 weeks getting over it. Well I tried to sleep in the tent (not comfortable and I was in pain) then some neighbors set off firecrackers which sent Squeaky under the steering wheel. Sooooooo I was in pain, Squeak was scared .... and we bailed.
Since then we've decided to try picnics in neighbor's yards for practice. Practice practice practice is the name of the game. Squeaky wants nothing more than to get out of the pen and walk about, probably would rather be without the leash but it works to satisfy him.
I'd still like to go camping, but then last week (the original fall was about 4 weeks ago), we were outside on a walk, and someone opened a door and let an unleashed dog out..... he saw Squeaky and started running for him. I positioned myself in between the dog and cat, the dog ran into me and pushed me over. Fortunately by that time his owner was there and got him under control. Squeaky got out of his harness in a nanosecond but fortunately didn't bolt like lightening. I was able to get up and pick him up, take him home. I was not so injured the second time but I'm still moving slowly.
I actually have a lady with 40 acres near Fairplay who said we could camp on her land. I'm definitely not doing public anything. However I'm moving so slowly these days, still trying to get everything ready and safe. It takes a lot of thinking, planning, shopping and money and time and energy. I have the smallest hope we can still do a night or two this year, otherwise.... next year.
