Hi, Buffy and I again looking for information and understanding. For more than 2 weeks now, Buffy has been hovering in the low to mid teens when tested (Canada). Last night she was 12.3 and then I tested her 2 hours later and she was 11.4. This morning she registered at 22.3. I just don't understand why the upswing when nothing has changed. She is strictly getting FF and on July 30 we were able to decrease her dexamethasone from .75 to .5 . I just don't understand the why behind the numbers and upswing.

Thanks for any info.

Why are you skipping doses? Her pre-shots have been more than high enough that she should be getting insulin.
My specialist has instructed me that at this time she only wants me to give a dose if Buffy's BG is 15 or over. I am going to be doing another curve on Friday and send it to the specialist to decide from
there what we are going to do going forward. Her specialist is very concerned about her going too low.

That's why we test. If you're able to test, YOU are in control of her blood glucose. I don't think you're doing her any favors by skipping so much.

At first we suggest if she's above 200 (11.1) you shoot. If below 200 you stall, don't feed and test again in 20-30 minutes to see if it goes up without the influence of food. Use that time to post with a subject line that will get somebody's attention like "STALLING! NEED HELP!"....you can go back and edit it once you have somebody helping you.

As you gain more experience and data, that "stall point" drops. On SLGS, it eventually drops to 90. On Tight Regulation, I'd shoot China if she was above 50 (once I had enough experience and truly understood how China reacted to both food and insulin). Lantus works best when it's not trying to drag down a high number. I know it seems like if your cat went from 300 to 150 on X units that if you gave X units when they were only at 150 they'd drop to zero, but it doesn't work that way. Check out China's spreadsheet to see how well Lantus works at lower numbers.
