? 8/4 Phoenix, Increase insulin

I am concerned about Phoenix's insulin dose. If he stays high today, I believe he is due for an increase. On 8/1, he dropped to 84 BG at +9. I gave him some fancy feast pate LC at that time to stop him from dropping further.

In the past, Phoenix has only been able to take 10.50 units for a few days before I have had to reduce his insulin. But this increase in his BG I believe has been caused by the gentamicin breathing treatments that vet put him on. This is when his BG starting getting higher. The gentamicin has also given him diarrhea. He has finished with the gentamicin almost a week ago but the side effects are still there. I read that the diarrhea may even take a month to clear up.

Phoenix is still taking amoxicillin but he has taken this quite a lot in the past with no problems. I have tried to schedule a consult with his vet but his next appointment is not for another week. His vet had a family emergency and won't be back until next week. I believe I will get better advice regarding his insulin from all of you.
I have read that an infection can raise BG levels. His blood work was slightly elevated and the vet said this could be caused by an infection. I had taken him to the vet because he was gasping like an asthma attack. He is fine now.

Should I increase Phoenix's insulin dose tomorrow if he doesn't go below 100 BG today? I usually increase only .25 units but do your think I should increase .50 units instead? This will make his insulin dose 11.25 units.

I would really appreciate your advice. Phoenix seems okay but I still worry.

If he is still on amoxicillin, you may want to start him on S. Boulardii (probiotic) to help with the diarrhea. I always give it when giving antibiotics to prevent GI upsets.
And yes, an infection can raise BG levels.

For doses over 10U increases and decreases are in multiples of 1U but you can be cautious and increase it by 0.5U

Tagging @tiffmaxee for advice.

Thank you, Bhooma, if Phoenix doesn't drop low tonight, I will increase by .50 units.
Also, how is Bandit doing?

Still peeing a lot and 2 vets haven't been able to ascertain why! Thanks for asking, Susan! :)
I am sorry to hear Bandit is peeing a lot. That must be very worrying for you. I really wish they could talk so they could let us know how they feel. I hope Bandit gets back to normal soon.

The infection is likely raising the bg. I would increase. I know you are concerned about what will happen after a few days. I honestly don’t know what to say but even if it on,y lasts a few days it will hopefully get him out of these high numbers.

I hope it lowers his BG. Phoenix's BG was 479 at +7 today. He has never been this high unless I gave a fur shot.
The thing is I took him to the vet for what seemed to be an asthma attack. He finished his round of antibiotics and the vet didn't prescibe another round. I called and asked if I could get another 10 days worth because Phoenix was still coughing occasionally and sneezing but he does this on and off anyway.

I guess I will just have to wait to talk to the vet but the high numbers are really stressing me out. Phoenix is eating and acting normally except for these high numbers. Thank you for responding.
