Hi all -

sorry to start a new thread here but this pertains to Niki’s dose tonight.

I don’t know how to cut and paste the thread from last night detailing Niki’s ER stay and what was going on today. But I thank everyone for all your help and encouragement.

So he has been eating. Like a real cat. So we did not do any of his supplemental ng tube feedings as instructed by the ER people.

Consequently, his PMPS was 247. I am just double checking, we should again shoot with the 1.5 units, correct? We are a bit reluctant to mess with his dose but will if advised to do so. He definitely doesn’t need a hypo even on top of all his other issues.

thank you so much!

Nancy

Here's the other post for background/continuity - https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...-er-now-home-need-advice.250387/#post-2825354

So nice to hear Niki is eating :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Let me try to tag folks who stopped by your other thread and may be able to help with dosing - @Bron and Sheba (GA) or @tiffmaxee

I also saw @Wendy&Neko around but not sure if she still is.

How are you all feeling as caregivers? That also plays into dosing incase you need to monitor :bighug:

Thank you! We are used to staying up all night every few weeks since Niki has never been regulated.

I'm not sure if those folks I tagged are around. Are you testing for ketones? Have strips and HC food and syrup? If if were me, I'd be hesitant to shoot the 1.5u...maybe a token dose and then others can weigh in for AMPS? Sorry that I'm not personally much help. I can only hang out for an hour or so if you do shoot (and then perhaps others may be online).

thank you. That’s why we are hesitating. We have all the supplies except the ketone meter (just ordered a new one today as we had questioned the reliability of our old one in the past).

by token, are you thinking .5 or .75 or less? He was at .75 before he got sick.

thank you for your help and time!

Here's your previous thread (just copy what's in the address bar and paste it into your next thread)

He sure is coming down fast now that he's back home! If you've got plenty of test strips and can test as often as might be necessary tonight, you could go ahead with the 1.5 (one nice thing about having the NG tube is if you need to get glucose into him, you know you'll be able to!)

If your gut tells you that's too much, you could try 1U (since he was on .75 before the craziness started) but with the ketones in the picture, I wouldn't want to risk giving him too much less until we know for sure he needs a smaller dose

Thank you for the help! 1.5 units makes me a little nervous and 1 (and below) seems too little so we are going to split the difference at 1.25. I hope that is acceptable. I know every cat is different but we’d like to avoid more ER visits if possible.

I appreciate everyone’s knowledge and willingness to help!!!!

Hi Nancy
Sorry I wasn’t around earlier when tagged with but I can see you were well looked after!
He has certainly come down a bit since coming home. Maybe a combination of being home, feeling better and on some lower carb food.
I’ll be around for several hours if you need help. Just tag me. @Bandit's Mom will also most likely be around as well :)

Nancy -

You can always change the subject line on your thread for the day if have a question. You open the thread and simply change the subject line in your initial post. That way you have all of the information for the day in one thread.

Hi Nancy. How is Niki? I've been thinking about you both and wondering how things are going?
