7/21 FCC AMPS 142, +2 103, +5 90

How is he this morning? AMPS test was smooth?

He seems fine. He was squirmy for his test, but okay with it. It seems to get worse as the day goes on though. It doesn't help that it takes me two or three tries. We'll see if his numbers have taken a dive by +2 again. I'm also curious to see how his new dose works out.

Why does it take 2 or 3 tries?

My aim seems to be off all the time. I rarely get him in a good spot right off the bat. It's partially because he's folding his ear away from me as much as possible now and partially just me. I don't know why because I know the sweet spot and other places he bleeds. I can't just use the Lancet because the mere thought scares me and I would be too freaked out to keep him calm. I do know the pen obscures where I'm poking him a bit.

Occasionally it takes more tries than that, but it's when he's wiggly or just not having it. It's totally my fault, but I'm not sure how to fix it.

FCC went from 142 at AMPS to 103 at +2

Lately he has been falling more than that and goes to green so I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

He stopped purring today. He normally purrs as soon as you go near him. I wonder if all the tests are stressing him out? He doesn't seem to be displaying any other abnormal behaviour. Is it acceptable to leave him be till PMPS and +2 then? I am rather concerned about the lack of purring. Even though he's doing so well if this is causing him stress is it better to go back to SLGS? I don't want to, but I also don't want him to be miserable.

I think he should be okay if you feed a little LC every hour and test again at +5.

Is it possible he is picking up on your stress? He seems to have turned a corner in the last few days. If you could just hang on for a few more days and see how he does?

Okay. Thank you, I will do that.

It is totally possible. I know cats are sensitive, but I've been stressed in the past and he's been okay. I don't mind continuing to try, but I'm just worried about FCC. I don't think changing tactics is helpful overall. Especially since I don't know exactly what's going on. I might chalk this up to an off day and hope we can get a few in a row with slightly less aggressive testing. I know it's been necessary and I'll do it in a heartbeat if that's what he needs.

I guess for the moment I'll see how the day goes and try not to worry about it at all.

I do need to be out of the house again for a few hours tomorrow although if he is in numbers of concern I can find a way to stay.

We'll figure out a way to do that tomorrow.

I'm off to bed now. See you at PMPS. Unless you see a big drop at +5, you can stop testing for the rest of the cycle. That should be around his nadir.

Feed him a little LC every hour to keep him surfing till +5

Thanks again. I hope you sleep well.

Back into the green again with a +90. There didn't seem to be the same kind of drop today? I'm not very good at interpreting data yet. Still no purring! The +5 was a lot easier than the last few have been so I really do think he just needed a break.

It's a mini-bounce from the numbers yesterday. Hopefully the pokie break helps! :-)

He is not letting me get his PMPS. He was back to himself after leaving him alone from testing since the +5. He is running away and we are ten minutes past insulin time. I don't know what to do?

I have. A couple of times. I gave him his freeze dried chicken and let him go chill elsewhere. What if I can get his PMPS finally and he won't let me get his +2? I don't even know if I can get this. I'm about to try again.

Do you think the sound of the lancing device scares him? Want to try freehand? I've never tried freehand...Bandit has never given me trouble for testing. But my civvie is a nightmare to test!

I don't think so. He never cared before and I even clicked it before I came near him. I can't do it freehand.

I really don't understand what's going on and I'm being calm around the cat. It's just the inner despair!

Could I go down to one unit for the tonight and tomorrow safely and start testing again after he's had a day and night's break?

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. He's really doing brilliantly.

Or give him 1.5U and feed him some HC and attempt one more test later in the cycle. +2 or +3.

Okay, but what if he is low then and I need to test him all night and he won't stand for it? It's absolutely an option, but I don't know what happens if he runs into trouble.

The depot will continue to influence the cycle. Without tests....maybe skip the shot.

Okay. I will skip. Really unfortunate. I feel like I am failing him utterly. TR was going so well.

I'm wondering if this may not be a bad idea...

I'll do it and he'll be off schedule so I'll have to figure out what to do in the morning. I'll make sure he has MC food throughout the night. I feel terrible.

Also you are so helpful, I just am at a loss.

He is one hour off schedule. His numbers are sure to be a disaster when I'm allowed near him again. Yes, MC is 12%. Should I use HC?
Your usual shot time is 10pm and you shot at 11pm tonight? You can shoot at 10:30am/pm tomorrow and be back to 10am on Friday morning.
I'm thinking MC through the cycle may not be needed. Feed him MC now and at +1 and +2 and that should do. Switch to LC after.

Okay. I will follow that feeding schedule. If I can't test tomorrow do another single unit? I really don't understand how this has gotten so drastically away from me

I am thinking I might go buy another meter tomorrow. I was planning on going through these strips and ordering the cheaper one on the internet, but I wonder if the meter is causing any of the issues. I've had some battery problems with it lately. It isn't really in the budget, but I'll make it work if it might help.

Is the Libre something you can look at getting? It doesn't stay on for some cats though!

I think it might be too expensive. I'll look into it some though. He's not a fan of having anything on him. Except for when I pile his mice on his back on occasion.

Try the Relion (Walmart). $9 for the meter and $18 for 100 strips.

I'm Canadian

I was going to order the bravo meter, but I have a coupon for the new accuchek meter and someone pointed out it was important to have a meter that you can get strips for without waiting for the internet as a backup.

The first time I ever used the emoji thing on my keyboard was after I said I'm Canadian and the little guy didn't show up. So I'm trying again. Just to prove I don't give up on everything!

Aww man. I just looked and it didn't show up in my last post either! So now I'm just a weirdo making strange posts. FCC is doing well, but has gone back to not purring. I will do some research tomorrow, but am really not sure how to find a solution to what's going on. It's super disappointing because I really do think he was doing well and made all sorts of progress real quick. I think TR is the best way to keep him healthy, but causing him massive amounts or stress is not helpful. I take all my deep breaths away from the cat. At a bit of a loss at the moment. Thanks for your help. It made a difference.

Sorry. I was on the road and so the delay replying.

Missed that you're in Canada. Sorry. Bravo has the cheapest strips. Maybe ordering well in advance could help with never running out of them?

Yes. He was indeed responding well to TR. Is the reaction to tests only recent? I see you were testing quite a bit a few weeks back as well.

Not all emojis work here. I think only the Unicode 1.1 ones do.

I was going to order the bravo this week. I have 100 strips for this meter left. It's been having battery problems and I'm just trying to think of any difference between what is happening now vs even a few days ago.

This problem is new. I would say two or three days? I do know I always test the same ear and I used to alternate, but he seems to really dislike me doing the left one so I figure I should stick to the right.

I can't figure out at all what is happening and I'm wondering if I shoot low today and tonight and don't test I can resume as normal tomorrow. I'm not sure that's a good solution though. I really don't want to take him off of TR, but it was impossible last night.

Should I put some kind of salve on his ear? It doesn't look sore. Back when I took him to the vet I mentioned that he had started shaking his head and he cleaned out FCC's ears, but didn't seem to think there was a problem.

Maybe his ears are a bit sore. I put Vaseline on Chloe's sometimes when I feel like I've been a bit rough on her.

No other symptoms you've noticed? Chloe stopped hanging out on my lap recently and then sleeping under furniture. Eating, drinking, litterbox all looked normal, but it turns out she had a UTI. She wasn't peeing more often, but definitely in larger amounts. And I didn't notice her drinking more because I had been adding more water to her food.

I hope he comes around soon :(
