7/13/21 Mr. Kitty: PM dosage advice needed

Hi! did you feed? one approach is to stall without feeding for 20 minutes and test again - some kitties drop without food (mine was one!) but some will rise due to the natural end of the lantus cycle. With that said, I cannot stay with you if you shoot but let me see who's online... @tiffmaxee can maybe stop by.

Thanks for your reply! We took away the food to stall and re-test. He’s at 69 +25 minutes after PM pre shot Test. We decided to stall for another 15 minutes - i’m just worried because he was bouncing from the previous night and we went to the vet for all kinds of tests and treatments today.

Can you stay up and test as often as necessary tonight? Do you have plenty of supplies like strips, HC and MC food, Karo/honey/syrup?
I was up all night and am exhausted. I’m not sure I can stay up but my husband can set his alarm for +4 and +6. He’s been through so much today, but I know with a depot things work a little different. We will be home tomorrow to test as well. Currently stalling again bc he went up 10 points after our first stall. Thanks Chris!!

Edited to add that yes, we have a hypo kit and plenty of test strips.

I don’t see many +2 or +3 so,I’m not sure when onset is for your cat. For many it’s +2 still I suggest getting a test then. If it’s lower than the pmps you could be in for an active cycle.

I am confused by your spreadsheet. Did your shoot? That bg will be your pmps and then one hour from then will be your +1.

Hi! I’ve updated the spreadsheet so hopefully it makes more sense. We stalled for an hour then shot a reduced dose. My husband is staying up to test at +2 and +5 from pm shot given at 9:45pm edt. Mr. Kitty’s nadir is typically between +4 and +5 Thanks for responding :)

Your welcome. You still might have an active cycle eve with the reduced dose. It’s good your husband will test. Tag if you need help and update the subject with the bg readings please.

Maybe you know this but even with a reduced dose, the depot is still in play - I see Elise said get a +2 - I didn't like surprise so I got a +1 whenever I shot low (often it's a food bump but when it's not, you may want to feed some higher-end % LC or even MC...ECID type of thing).

For your SS, the number you actually shot goes in your PMPS cell. So your PMPS cell would have this text since you shot at +13 hours from the previous insulin dose.

And just incase you need to move shot time back to your preferred time - Getting back on a 12/12 shot schedule

Thank you @JaxBenji - I’ve updated our spreadsheet.

Just some added info....it's really important to get at least 1 "before bed" test on the PM cycle.....every cycle. Most cats go lower at night so it's not only important for safety reasons, but without testing on the PM cycle, you're missing half the data. That's like trying to figure out what the puzzle picture is when you only have pieces filled in on the left side.

A +2 can often almost predict what's going to happen later in the cycle (for some cat's, the +3 is better).

If the +2 is about the same as the PS, it's usually a pretty normal cycle...gradually down to nadir and gradually back up to the next PS.

If the +2 is higher than the PS, there's usually a bounce starting and those are the cycles when you can usually take a pokey break.

If the +2 is lower than the PS, that's your early warning that he might be going a lot lower later in the cycle so it's important to plan on getting a few more tests in until you know he's done dropping. These are the cycles it's good to have a pot of coffee ready! :coffee::coffee::coffee:
