They can do some additional diagnostics but the main difference/advantage in these situations with an ER/Specialty Center is that they are staffed with IMs vs general vets & they are also able to better gauge what level of severity the problem is (to try to avoid an actual crisis if it is something that could potentially cause one). Thank you , I hear what you're saying, but I have a very sick daughter to care for and I would have to stay close to home that's why I would take him to the veterinary emergency group :bighug:

We have a VEG in Tampa and they have IMs :). They are a true ER so they have pretty much everything needed to manage a situation. Ours does not have some of the capacities of a full service ER (BP as an example of full service) such as ultrasound….but your VEG may be different and may have that ability as well. Ask them just so you have the information.

I will post something on the main forum later or tomorrow Re:the need to research & create a list of urgent care and ERs in your area (with distance). I recently had an experience with a friends cat that was really alarming & we discovered the hard way that it isn’t only the specialty clinics or services that are over capacity and have staffing issues :(. It is good to make a list of options in your area to have on hand & to call them before heading there (even and most especially in an emergency—if more than one is equidistant) and ask if they 1) have the ability to manage the pet but also 2) have an ability to keep them & manage them properly if the situation requires a hospitalization/overnight stay to stabilize them.

I personally knew of the various ERs in my area, but I did not have all the names and phone numbers and distance printed on a list and then in my phone until I found out about the issues going on and created one. I also called around to inquire about services available for ERs I was not as familiar with. Some have full services with pretty much every diagnostic and treatment capacity on site while others are of limited capacity (which may be ok with some circumstances but not what you want to find out after the fact if you need them :().
 
If you need an alternative, you might look at AERA in Fairfield. It's a bit further from you, though. They do specialty stuff during the day and emergencies after hours.
 
I am so happy to hear that Tyler is eating and purring and pawing your face! This is good news. I may have missed it but has he thrown up today, Diane?

He just came over and pawed my face which means he wants food.
He seems to be more energetic, I gave him 2 tsp of FF pate and he ate all of it @+3.5
He kept down the baby food I gave him @+2 and @+3
He's purring, keeping my fingers crossed this will last .:bighug::bighug:

Tablets of Cerenia can hurt your cat. Injectable Cerenia for cats should be given in a veterinary office by a professional technician or the vet themselves.

Cats can only have Cerenia in its injectable form.

No Cerenia Tablets For Cats!
Cats cannot have tablet Cerenia under any condition or for any reason. It could cause harm to your otherwise healthy cat and is never an option.

There's contradictory comments about giving Cerenia Pills. I know a lot of people use it here.
My cat stopped eating a few weeks ago. He was very Nauseous. I gave him Slippery Elm every few hours & slowly tapered off. Slippery Elm is safe for cats & it's always worked for my animals.
I'm not sure why people prefer to use Pharmaceuticals.

Pharmaceuticals are rarely tested on Cats. They nearly always use dogs (beagles) Cats are NOT dogs.
Cerenia is prescribed "off Label" for cats. Id rather use something I know is safe & won't hurt my cat.

In fact, cats can be given cerenia tablets. Interestingly, the same site you linked also has an article on giving cars cerenia tablets and how to do it.

It is bitter so it’s best to give with butter to coat it and be sure to give some kind of liquid like water before and after so the throat is moist and the pill doesn’t get stuck.

@Diane Tyler's Mom did they test him for pancreatitis? I’m glad he’s better today.

Begging for food @+6 and @+8 had FF 2%, drinking water from the faucet.
Wanting lovins , even playing with his toys.
No they didn't test for pancreatitis. I have no idea what it could have been.
Now he wants to play and I'm tired from worrying :p
