Good morning all! Pearl is doing some finnicky eating (or NON eating shall we say) the past few days. Appetite seems to be there, but yet just not eating much, or sometimes not at all. Not sure what it is all about yet. We just had bloodwork done 10 days ago, no problems to speak much of aside from what I already know.

Today her dose was reduced to 0.5U. We will see how she does!

Oh if you only knew! She is 12.5 lbs has gained a whole pound as a diabetic. We started overweight at 11.5 pounds. She should be maybe 10 max. But she only eats the diet of an 8lb cat daily so I don’t know how really to reduce further. I don’t see how to justify only offering the diet of a 6lb cat for example. Her bloodwork showed good thyroid levels, so no hypothyroid going on.
 
The same thing happened to Max. He was 17 pounds toward the end with his ideal weight 14 where he was when diagnosed. He ate only 2 small cans of food plus treats and whatever needed to feed the curve.

Thank you! Then I won’t worry so much! I’ll just feed whatever she will tolerate, maybe she just wants less food? It is also awfully hot here don’t know if that means anything we are in air conditioning lol.
Did the vet ever say what could cause Max to stay heavier than ideal even while eating only a little? My vet has just suggested low metabolism.

We never discussed it as he had so much going on with chronic pancreatitis and arthritis in his back that my vet refused to treat. At the thought I thought that was the issue. Think it was a combo of how little he moved around. In retrospect I think that was due to his heart. My vet didn’t like the X-rays but the radiologist said it was was the way he was lying. By the time the heart was suspected a few months later he had chf. He had a benign murmur checked by an echo. Would a could a shoulda pushed.

Pearl used to be very playful and springy. Ever since she lost Cricket and Whisper last summer, she has never rebounded. She is now very low-energy and low-movement. Thankfully she has had multiple x rays since (asthma) and a cardio checkup last summer, so I feel we are in the clear there. She had a bunch of almost-deaths herself last summer and fall before the FD diagnosis.

I have always suspected her lack of movement is either habit at this point, the toll of the medical, or still trauma (I lean towards the trauma hypothesis myself). She is a very sensitive cat emotionally.

Today she has been so clingy (usually quite independent) so I've given up on the idea of accomplishing anything and am just laying here with her on my lap. She's worth it - you never know how long they will be with you, and I know I will never regret taking a day to just rest with her.
