AMPS+3 Ollie went neon at 45. Gave 2 tsp of hc food snd will test in 30 minutes

Good catch — glad you’re on top of it. I believe that warrants a dose reduction to 0.5u but others can confirm. Nice that Oliver decided to throw the 45 during daylight hours.

I can't advise either but I would say a reduction is in store for Oliver.

2ND QUESTION
On Thursday, Oliver will stay with at a kennel for 4 days. She has given insulin many times. But never tested before. Happy and willing to learn. However, I want things to go well while I am gone, and have heard of others administering a “vacation dose”. What advice can you give me on this.

1) yes on the reduction, good luck with the new dose
2) ideally you want a vacation dose with concerning greens. Let's see how he does the next couple days on the new dose before deciding if he should go down to 0.25 while you are gone. Might give you time to see if testing will happen and when.

2) Good that she’s willing to learn to test. I’d take her up on that and also give her a link to the FDMB message board in case she has questions/concerns and can’t reach you.
I’d also suggest you leave Oliver’s insulin and syringes and also prepare a sample syringe filled with colored water and/or a piece of tape marking the appropriate dose. Never hurts to be overly cautious with such things.
