5/11 Snuggie: PMPS 273; +2.75 321 +10 284 ((AMPS 236; +3 342; +4 360; +8 286 (Day 2 Levemir)

Snuggie's numbers have steadily decreased after only 2 injections of Levemir- 403 AMPS yesterday, 212 AMPS today. Since the shoot/no shoot number is 200 and we're very close, I'm going to wait 30 min and test again before feeding or deciding to shoot. Advice on what BG numbers to take what action at, reduce dose, etc?

I'll report back, and I will be home with him all day to monitor. Hypo kit is ready and vet is only 2 mi away.

It’s safe to shoot if over 200 and no need to stall. The take action number is if close to 90 on SLGS. If ever he drops under 90 a reduction is earned. As you have data the no shot number will decrease. If ever you stall you must not feed because you don’t want a food influenced bg. I’d reread the sticky on dosing. Keep asking questions if in doubt.

thank you!! Ok it’s 30 min past anyway but I’ll proceed as usual - thanks! I have the dosing sticky printed out so will keep that handy. I’ll update as the day goes on.

thank you!

Since it’s 30 minutes late you can shoot at your regular time tonight. Get another test though. Sometimes they go lower when you stall. The second test will be your amps.

Second AMPS 236. I’ll update my title, thanks much!

I’d get a +3 or +4 as that is when Lev usually onsets. The nadir is often late in the cycle too, sometimes at shot time so you will likely need to get used to shooting low depending on how Lev works for Snuggie I’m glad you stalled a you should if ever in doubt but know that 200 is a safe number to shoot.

Oh great - thank you! Will do. Since he’s just on Day 2 I was worried he’d continue to slide downwards, this is maybe the 3rd time we’ve ever seen a number close to 200 in 5 mo. I’ll do as you suggest and someone mentioned yesterday trying for a +10 or +11.

Getting a +10 or +11 will help you know if he’s n the way up or down and make it easier to shoot and stay on schedule. Any extra tests you can get spread out over the cycle will help with future dosing. Also note what you feed and when on your ss, especially if food is needed to bring up the bg. He’s liking Lev.

Another question - I can typically get a PM+3, or 3.5 (or maybe a +4 depending, but that’s a bit past my bedtime and I suffer from insomnia etc) - what is a reasonable action number to trigger me setting an alarm for kitty safety? And what should that be for, a +6 or something else?

I don’t mind the occasional “nice to know” middle of the night values, but trying to figure out when I NEED to set that alarm.

It’s going to depend on when he onsets. If at onset there’s a drop of more than 20 points it’s likely to be an active cycle needing alarms. If you figure this out during the day it will help.

Ah thank you! Is that something I can learn from varying my daytime BG test tomes, or will that be when I do the first curve next Monday when the depot has likely fully developed?

You can wait for the depot to build. You will need to see when the onset is as a test around then will let you know if you will need an alarm set later in the cycle or not.

Gonna get a +3.5, I’ll probably set an alarm for a +6 or so just because I’m a worrier - unless y’all think I can set food out overnight and feel safe.

It'll depend on what the +3.5 is! Sorry, our crystal ball is in the shop so we can't see any further into the future ;)

If you get tests at different parts of the cycle, you can learn what you need to know. The problem with a curve is it's just one cycle...if you make a habit of getting tests sprinkled here and there so there's no big gaps, you can learn from those tests.

ETA...you know if you could get the Young Again out of his diet, you could go to Tight Regulation which would allow you to raise his dose as often as every 3 days if he's not getting where you want him instead of having to wait a week before you can increase....just something to think about.

@Chris & China (GA) LOL! These crystal balls! my +3.5 is in an hour from now - midnight MDT. Is this helpful info at least?

I’m trying to get some more varied test times now with this - tomorrow I’ll try for a AM+2 and AM+10 at least.

I’m hoping to eventually get him off dry. Our civvie is turning her nose up at the dry that is safe for him, we are worried about leaving her favorite kibble out accidentally and having him get in it, plus he’s going on a phos binder soon, so we are looking into the microchip feeder for her. He’s a food bully tho and she’s the classic scaredy cat, so it will be a process getting her to use it and not be afraid. Altho maybe if she knows it means she gets her favorite food without having to ask her hoomans, maybe it won’t be so scary!

@Chris & China (GA) edited to add that I just read the sticky about being data ready and the guidance for shooting low on TR and it answered (I think) most/all of the questions bouncing in my head. TR sounds good for a goal but again all depends on the civvie (her name is Kali) and how well she will adapt to the chip feeder. I’m trying to transition her to wet food too but it’s a process LOL!

Not sure how I missed this but thank you! I’ll add that info starting tomorrow. Usually he eats wet every 2-ish hrs starting at 8am, all the way up thru bedtime (11ish usually), always pulling food 2 hrs before preshot tests.

Update: PM+2.75 (almost 3) up to 321. Fed 1/2 pouch of Weruva pate. About 1/3 c of young again left out - btwn the two of them they’ll eat maybe half of this. I know they do both graze overnight due to bouts of insomnia and trying to sleep on the couch LOL! I’ll grab a PM+10 in the morning.

Thanks all!!
