Hello.

We still don't really have Gryphen's vomiting under control, and she's eating sporadically at weird times. I should clarify; she is vomiting in the AM again, and I wouldn't think anything of it because she has vomited in the past if she doesn't eat for a long period of time. But, she's not eating the food that's left out for her, and continues to throw up. It's water or bile, and it's typically only once, but I can tell she doesn't feel good. I've gotten Cerenia, pepcid, and mirtazapine (havent given this yet since she doesn't keep pills down) for her, and the vet has to 'research' the zofran and the cyproheptadine. Hopefully she'll call me back today. I'm also trying to get any/all of the meds in liquid or transdermal; my arms are raw from trying to give her pills, and I don't think she's getting full doses. We did subq at the vet on Monday.

She will eat kibble if I leave it out in the day (YA - I got new bags). But of course eating dry is causing her water intake to increase. No large urine clumps, though. Her numbers go down a few hours after she eats, and I know that is good.

So, after that book I just wrote...does anyone have advice for me on the BG numbers? This is day 3 with no insulin. (We were not ready to go off insulin, but until we can get her eating/vomiting under control, it is what it is.) I looked back at her numbers, and they have been almost exactly the same since 4/1 , whether the dose was .25, .1, or none. I don't understand this at all. (I was running two meters for a while, so I don't have to compare human to pet meters; I have pet numbers for all of the dates.)

In my previous post, I mentioned the insulin may have been bad, since it was slightly cloudy. But, that being said, it could only have been bad for a few days, as Alphyne is also dosed from the same bottle, and she went super low on 4/29, so I know the insulin would have been good then.

I'm starting to wonder if Gryphen has diabetes at all, or if she has something else going on? Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas? Thank you. :(:(:(

Sounds like a nightmare for you and your kitty. Wish I could offer some helpful advice but I cannot. Hope someone will come along soon and address all your concerns. Has she had a full senior panel blood test to see what might be going on? Just my two cents but her BG numbers look pretty good and I would not be worried about those numbers right now. You need to find out what is making her sick.

Yes, we did a full senior panel when the vomiting started (about a week ago). BUN was high, and SDMA, phosphorus at the high end of normal, everything else was looking good. We did a urinalysis, too...nothing bad, and no glucose in the urine.

The vet mentioned possible concern with kidneys, but considering the higher protein diet since we switched to (mostly) wet food, it was more of a 'let's keep an eye on it' thing.

Thanks for your concern...she's got me stumped! I'm so worried!!

Nothing else new that you can think of in her diet or environment? No new additional stresses?

I was reading on my phone and didn’t see the date. The kidney numbers aren’t bad at all. The creatine did rise but still within normal range. but the BUN is good. The USG is a little low but it could vary and if not first of the day might not be a big deal. Nothing explains the vomiting or loss of appetite to me.

Thank you for looking, I really appreciate it! I had xrays before, but maybe it's time for them again...maybe she has something inside that can't be seen. No animal MRI available in my area, so hopefully xray will be sufficient. She does have a dental scheduled for June...mild tartar, nothing concerning that the vet could see.

Thanks again!

I'm not sure if we have that option here, I will definitely ask when I make an appointment tomorrow!! :cat::cat:

If an ultrasound is not done by a radiologist or internist that does lots of them it’s a waste of your money. I made that mistake once. The vet I was using had an ultrasound done by a traveling vet. He found everything wrong with Max except pancreatitis and recommended exploratory surgery. I went to my vet for a second opinion. He had me have another ultrasound done by his radiologist. Max had pancreatitis. Never had exploratory surgery and never had cancer of any kind.
