Just getting ready for the day here in Texas as well. It is very early but Phoenix dropped to 97. I am checking every 30 minutes to make sure he doesn't go too low. Fortunately, I am retired. I can take a catnap whenever I want to. Let's all have a really great day!!

Hi, Susan. Thanks for writing! We do worry so much about these babies. At what number do you feel comfortable not checking every 30 minutes? Fortunately, I'm retired, too, since last Oct. Thank God she got diagnosed after I retired. Catnaps, oh, yes. I take them, too! Let's have a totally green day!:joyful:

Phoenix has a tendency to drop fast. Fortunately, he didn't today. I think because I fed him a larger snack at 5:30 a.m. I know a lot of people feel safe not checking when their cat is in the 90 BG range but I don't.

If Phoenix's BG is below 100, I check every 30 minutes. If his BG is 110 - 180, I check every hour. I would rather be safe than sorry. One time, Phoenix was over 300 when I went to bed so I didn't check his BG during the night. When I took his AMPS the next morning, Phoenix's BG was in the 40's. That terrified me. I prefer to keep Phoenix in the blue numbers between 100 - 200. I would rather have him a little high and be able to leave the house when I need to. I believe it is safer for Phoenix as well.

Phoenix was diagnosed after I retired too. I am very grateful for that. I had a very stressful job in the medical field. I still would have worked something out to keep him healthy. A job can be replaced but not Phoenix. Kingdoms and castles rise and fade, but love lasts forever.

That's great that you're so tuned into Phoenix's numbers dropping too fast. I understand what you're saying about Phoenix getting a larger snack at 5:30 am and Phoenix didn't drop. I gave Haley a good sized snack too and she went from green to blue, yesterday. I was bummed. It would have been her first totally green day. I certainly don't blame you for being so on top of it, especially when Phoenix dropped so much over night. That was a big drop. I'd be terrified too. Haley tested 29 once. I panicked. I tested her again and she was over 100. I tested her a third time and she was over 100 again. But, boy, was I scared! I agree, keeping our kitties a little higher if we have to leave.. I had a medical procedure done a couple days ago. She knew I wanted to test her and she hid where I couldn't get her. I was so upset. I was getting advice here on the board. I left her some MC and water and her bed. The lliter box was already there. I couldn't wait to get home to test her. I was gone about 3 hours. She was fine, thankfully.

I was a Consumer Loan Processor. I worked at this credit union for 24 yrs. It's so nice to be home. My job was stressful too.

Let's hope our kitties do well today!!
