April 3 Inky 0.25 AMPS 472 +4 187 +4.5 121

Good Morning Cindy!

He's not quite in the lagoon yet - the beaches are blue and the lagoons are green - but that's ok...doesn't make a bit of sense, but someone here a long time ago decided that was the way to go with those slang terms :)

That IS however quite a significant drop! Over 200 points in just two hours. I usually set a timer at this point - whenever there's a big drop like that it usually indicates an active cycle. Please get another test in one hour! Don't wait too long to test because if Inky is still on this downward trajectory you may need to intervene with a little medium carb food

Do you have medium and high carb wet food on hand? A teaspoon or so and frequent testing to slow that drop down is a good idea...

I may not be around later this morning as Saturday is my day to run errands...so please post often and let us know how he's doing.

Adorable picture btw!!

I can add honey or Kari to his regular food can’t I?

It is an option when the numbers plummet...however you don't want to add sugar (karo/honey, etc) too early as it'll abort any hope of him getting to good numbers today...I usually try to hold off on that until things get serious (like lower greens and even medium or high carb wet food isn't doing the trick)...

If you don't have any medium or high carb foods on hand yet - please be sure to pick some up next time you go shopping - it's wonderful for steering these kitties when they take off on you (going too low, too fast).

Just saw your next message - how long will you be gone?

I swear these cats KNOW when you have to be out...and pick this ONE day to drop like a rock.

If you can't stay home, better to abort this cycle....if he's still dropping, can you leave plenty of food down? Karo/honey will only last for a short time...an hour or so...kitty cats have a fast metabolism...is there anyone else who can check on him?

ok, well get another test - let's see what's going on with those numbers - then decide what to feed based on that last reading...

How soon will you be able to test?

Still going down....

Well, one of you is going to have a change of plans today - abort the cycle with food and honey....or stay home with him and help him surf.

I've had to cancel more plans that I care to admit because Luci would pull the same stunt on me...many many times... 'sigh'

Ok, please keep updating your SS....

I've tagged some other folks who are typically around early to help you..

I have a column in my SS where I keep the time of day that I shoot - I see you're in Florida too - so that helps...

So your shot was 4 hours ago...that's a good thing - it means he's just about half way through the cycle...at least that's what I'm thinking from the time to now, right 3:30 to 7:30 - 4 hours, right...

He
Is getting BLue Buffalo Novel Protein Alligator which isn’t low carb but it is the best I can find that won’t mess up his food allergies

As Sue said, this is a bounce breaking cycle and those can be quite active. We still don't know for sure if he could go lower, given you have been feeding him. Just my opinion, if you do have to go out, I would leave lots of higher carb food out for him to ensure his safety. I've put honey on top of butters's snacks when I need to leave and her numbers aren't cooperating. It's not worth taking chances. See what @Bellasmom thinks since she has been helping you.

I also would leave higher carb food out, better to be safe than sorry or I would stay home, had to do that lots of times, but I’m not sure if that’s an option for you

I really should go. He just ate and he went to 109. Just gave some high carb treats

Well he just read 92. I am thinking he might be dehydrated. He hasn’t been drinking water a lot lately

ETA: just gave him about 50 ml saline subq

Are you giving him more wet food and less dry food lately? That could be why he isn't drinking as much. Wet food has a lot of water in it, whereas with dry, kitties need to drink a lot to get a proper amount of water. And they generally don't drink enough water to compensate for being on a dry food diet.
I mix some extra water in with Butters's wet food just to make sure she is getting enough water. You could try that.
I think I'd feed just a little LC with the 92, and I'd check again in 30 minutes. I just realized you're doing SLGS, so he is close to earning a reduction but still in safe numbers. The dose is so low, we don't really want him earning a reduction.

He has only been getting wet food for the last month, and I have been adding in water. He just has been feeling punky from surgery and meds and hasn’t been going to one of the many water dishes.

Totally agree

Just FYI, I would not put lots of water so he just doesn’t get full on water, you know what I mean, make sure he’s eating the food, I k ow Bella would lap up all the fluids and sometimes leave the food
