His AMPS are really high these days and it seems like he's stuck pretty high. I've given R twice today now and will give again tonight. I'm worried, if DKA can happen when they don't have enough inuslin (which clearly he does not) ... and not enough food ... well we've at least got THAT one covered since he EATS and EATS (I am cutting back... he's back to his pre-diabetic weight)... I guess as long as he doesn't come down with another one of his idiopathic high white counts... we are in the clear? It's the not enough insulin that I'm worried about. I feel like I'm failing him and that his good dose could be just a little more and I'm not giving it to him (although how could it be since he's sooo high most of the time)? Insulin is a lot cheaper than a DKA (I'm still paying for that one last fall). Maybe I'm on the wrong track.

Update: Still in the red after +6 and +8... the Lantus isn't helping much.

Darcy is still bouncing from that lovely long (to him) string of yellow a couple days ago. It can take up to six cycles to resolve.

As long as his ketones are coming down, I wouldn't stress about DKA. It has to be more than just high numbers that are a concern. He's doing fine on food and sounds like no infection or inflammation to worry about? In spite of all her time in high numbers, Neko always tested negative.

PMPS 254. I finally pushed him down with that 10 units of R helping the Lantus. Glad I was able to do it this afternoon. I just gave him 8 units of R because I know from experience that in the next two hours after he eats, his BG will rise and we will be waiting for the R to kick in somewhere about +2 or so.

Careful, you don't want to over push him down. You didn't get a R+4 after that 10 units so we don't know how that dose worked. Remember, drops over 100 points could set off another bounce.

Oh no. You’re right. And he could be bouncing for days again.

We just don't know, he could have dropped on his own with L after that. When you try a new dose of R, it's always good practice to get that R+4.

You know, he’s always been big. He always had a big head and paws even as a kitten. So we don’t see a lot of changes in him. I should show you his sister. She looks similar only like a girl.
