Thank you for all your support and advice over the last 24 hours. Mia was 12.1 AMPS and I gave 1.0 unit lantus. She is happily purring by my side when she is not chasing that annoying kitten! :)

I am home with her and will continue to monitor throughout the day.

I'm glad you're able to take the day off and stay home with her. What are your usual hours to go to work? I'm just wondering how you're planning to manage testing/feeding/shooting and then leaving for the day (or how many hours?) so that's something you'll want to think about and make a plan for before tomorrow.

I have an auto-feeder that really helps when I have to be away from the house (or need to get some sleep) to support Luci when she's in lower numbers. It's been a life-saver!

This is the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-5-Me...ital/dp/B000GEWHNS/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20

Also, for measuring fine doses of insulin this caliper has also been a life-saver:

Nice job with your title this morning, your SS and your signature! :joyful:

Just one tiny little request - since many of us in the US are unable to decipher metrics (me included):rolleyes:would you mind please writing the number that you've put on your SS in your title? I really don't have a clue what 12.1 is or any of those references...I apologize for my ignorance...someday perhaps when I retire, I'll have a graph or something along side my computer to help me figure all that out:Dbut for now, I'm off to work (well I don't go far)...just remoting in to my office from where I sit!

Have a wonderful day!:bighug::bighug:

Hi Billyjoe, Here is your yesterday condo for continuity: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/3-7-mia-amps-10-6.244264/#post-2756167 :)

Instead of using the world numbers, we all use the US numbers on the board. In Mia's spreadsheet, there are three pages: the "World mmol/L" page is where you enter Mia's numbers from the glucometer. There is also a page called "US mg/dL"...it is the first page in the file and it automatically converts the numbers you enter on the "World" page into US numbers. The US numbers are the ones we use on the board. So instead of 12.1, you would write 218.

To edit your title and change the number: look all the way to the righthand side of your screen just below your title. In very tiny writing it says "thread tools". Click on that and then on "edit title". Then you can make changes to your title and save them.

Let's see Mia work that juice!:cat:

Thank you For all the info. I’m typically away from home for eight hours. Fortunately I work Less than five minutes from home. I leave at 7:30, and can come home and check and feed at 10 and 1130-12:30. My neighbour is retired and is willing to come over and feed during the day. I also have a Furbo that I can set up to keep an eye on Mia from work. Once again, thank you to everyone in the group for your support this weekend. It was much appreciated from someone new to feline diabetes.:)

That are some great arrangements you made :) good luck with the monitoring, it only gets easier with time :bighug:

I see Mia has hit greens with 1U as well, i wonder if it is the depot or just a good dose for her, good luck and keep up the great work :)

+4.5 update- BG at 47 (2.6) on a FreeStyle Lite Metre

I feed her a whole can of Chicken Gravy Fancy Feast and have the vet on speed dial.

She is eating and acting normally. My plan is to retest. 15 min increments?

Good idea. Test again, and put the number in the title. I'll tag some people for you!

Now that she's above 50, you can switch to LC. How long since she ate? +4.5?
Where are we now? How long till +5.5?
@tiffmaxee

Tested at 5.5 and she is 85.
Feeding LowCarb now. Will retest in an hour.
Will continue to post and plan a reduced dose tonight.

Thank you everyone- without this group we would have been at emerge or worse.

When you get more than one test in an hour, you stack the results in the same cell like this:

You will have to manually colour the cell and the font colour. This link explains how. Since yours is a "world" SS, you will have the pleasure of repeating this exercise in both the World as well as US tabs! :)

My vet has reviewed the spreadsheet today and asked that I stop insulin and do 2 days of 12 hour curves at home with just diet changes. I feel that I would like this info.

She has been wonderful to work with and on our first visit suggested high protein low carb wet, suggested lantus and advocated for the benefits of home testing. She has been responsive to emails today and checking the spreadsheet. Thoughts?

I made that mistake with Max but we stopped for three weeks. I would see the PMPS and then decide. It looks to me like a bounce is starting. If that happens I would try .50 and then see what happens tonight and where she is in the morning. You could even try .25 depending on the rest of this cycle and what happens at PMPS.

How long before you started insulin was your diet change done?

The Lantus depot can affect the numbers for longer than 2 days after stopping insulin.

It's possible that she may need a small dose of insulin for a few days before she can go off it.

I will continue taking numbers today then. I did the diet change for about 10 days prior to starting insulin. We went from completely dry (friskies and two days of orijen fish) to wet, less than 2-3% carbs. She has had five doses of insulin since Friday night- 3 at 2 units, 2 at 1 unit and a skip sunday morning. Thank you!

The larger dose is effecting tonight”s BG. I think since you are so new I would skip tonight. Get a test 2-4 hours after eating. Then we can decide on a dose for the morning. How does that sound?

Thank you. Will do. I can test at +2 and +4 and post any BGs I take through the night. Thanks!

You won’t need to take tests all night because you aren’t giving insulin tonight. It would be a good idea to get a test around +11 in the morning so we know if on the way up at amps. If the pancreas is starting to kick in the BG will go down 2-4 hours after eating. Feed lc tonight.

Enjoy your evening Billy Joe. Looks like you've gotten some great advice from Elise and Bhooma today :) Just take it real easy and the testing will tell the tale of how much insulin Mia might really need.

:)
