Yesterday on Days of Our Ruby. :cat:

Ruby’s been great. Yesterday’s visit to the vet was short and sweet and she ate and played well. We even got a poopsie!

Will be on the phone harassing the internist. Maybe today she will actually call me back. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Healing thoughts for all of the sick kitties and hugs to you beans who love them so. It’s Friday everyone! :bighug::bighug:

+5 = 63. If only the internist would look at Ruby’s numbers today to understand what an impact insulin has on her. I don’t get why anyone would think she’s ready for remission. Do some vets really believe a cat is in remission when they are below renal threshold?

So I had to be out all afternoon, but right before I did, Ruby threw up her entire +5 meal with an ondansetron in it. There were puddles of puke going from one end of the apartment to the other, poor thing. I gave her a cerenia afterwards and replenished her food bowl and it was empty when I returned.

Ruby's primary vet called me with the blood work results. He said that her creatinine had gone down to 2.2, but her BUN was elevated to just a step above normal (I forgot the number) and her SDMA had gone up to 18. Her phosphorus is at 4.8 which is steady so that's good. Since the creatinine had actually gone lower, he doesn't believe the CKD is the reason for her sudden inappetance. He also said that he was going to help me with the internist in getting more precise measurements for Ruby's ultrasound. Will request a copy of the labs tomorrow and post the results in Ruby's SS. The good news is that her CKD isn't progressing but the bad news is we still don't know why her eating is off.

IBD can cause the inappetence. I know you are holding off on trying the Budesonide, but a steroid might help this if inflammation is an issue. Also if you don't already have something like Omeprazole on board. Just some ideas from my own past journey :)

Poor little baby Ruby with the vomiting, I am glad she was able to eat afterwards! Always so upsetting for mama bean and baby bean when this happens!

+2 = 74. She threw up her PMPS meal in its entirety. I had to run an errand and left a bowl of Weruva for her in case it was the raw that is making her feel sick. When I came home an hour later the Weruva was untouched and she didn't eat it until I put some raw duck in it. I'm glad she's taken to the raw food and hope that it's not the reason why she's thrown up two consecutive meals. I thought the Cerenia I gave her this afternoon would have calmed the vomiting. Should I give her another ondansetron, since she threw that up this afternoon?

I don't have omeprazole. I have famotidine but many have warned me against using it. I did put some SEB and aloe into her second bowl of food tonight so perhaps that will help.

Sorry for the pukus.:bighug:

Is she still showing signs of nausea? What dose of ondansetron are you giving?
She's sitting on the bathroom floor right now alone in the dark. She's been licking her lips a lot. I'm giving her 2 mg ondansetron but she threw it up this afternoon.

If you don't think she got any of the ondansetron, I think you could try giving it again, as long as it's two hours away from the SEB. Poor thing sounds nauseous.
Thanks, Wendy. Ruby hasn't vomited in quite a long while so this is very unlike her and worrisome. She is still eating, so that's a positive.

Poor Ruby! I hope her tummy quiets down, and I’m so happy she is still eating!! Gorgeous BGs too. Show off :p

I forget, have they confirmed or ruled out IBD yet? Sorry, I’m in a bit of a fog these days!

I'm happy Ruby's BGs are under control. I just wish I could give her an injection to resolve her tummy issues. IBD has not been ruled out yet. Still waiting on the results of a GI panel.
