Blue is jumping counter to counter and making it. I'm still scared but he's getting
stronger. He's eating like a maniac. His BG is higher today than yesterday but I
did give him the Lactulose which has sugar. I think Elise you mentioned that
previously and I forgot. I think the diabetes has become secondary to the cancer
because the vet should know that.

I'm able to dose Teddy with his two pills and I also got a drop in his infected eye.
It's the little things. Maybe Teddy will be nice once he feels better.

Layla is limping again. I gave her some Gaba. I'm not wanting to have to take
her to the vet again. I don't think she has an injury but I'm wondering about arthritis.

No news yet about Brat. I hope that little girl is okay.

Thanks for all the support. :bighug:

Hi Patty.

Good to hear that, amid all your worries about your furbabies, there are some small victories to celebrate. :)

On arthritis, I've seen a number of members say that Adequan really helps.

Praying that when you hear news of how Brat's doing that it will be good. If they don't contact you soon then perhaps give them a ring to ask how she's doing? It's already so hard not to be able to visit her, so it's quite reasonable to call them to ask how your tiny wee girl is doing. (((Brat)))

Great to hear that your Bluebird is moving around more and has a good appetite. ((((Blue)))) If there are times when insulin is needed, I wonder whether starting at the 'drop' dose might be worth considering (especially after his response to the 0.25IU dose two days ago).

How are you doing, Patty? Are you getting some bit of proper rest? How's your knee?

HI Mogs,
I'm doing okay. The knee really hurts but I was told to expect this. He said patients call him after a few weeks and
tell him it's not working and then suddenly the pain is gone. I'm hoping I'm able to say that soon. I'd love to get
back to the tennis court before I gain any more weight.

Yes, Blue is moving about more. I'm thinking a drop pf insulin too. I'd like to see what his BG does today and either
start tonight or in the morning. After writing that I had visions of me up all night so scratch that, maybe start in
the morning.

They called about Brat and she's doing great. No problem being in the clinic and she's eating and drinking. She
hasn't pooped yet and I warned them they'd have to fumigate when she does. o_O She will be tested again
tomorrow and if there's enough improvement she might be able to come home.

How about you and Noodle? You never said if she was still eating. Did you take her to the vet yet?

Patty

Increased appetite and hyperactivity can be side effects of the steroid. I’m wondering if that one dose of insulin shocked his pancreas into getting back to work. It sometimes happens.

How’s Brat?

Oh I never thought about that. I think it has helped him feel a little better. I wouldn't say he's hyperactive yet but he does get out of his "room" more. He wanted to eat and eat and eat this morning. He needs to gain back some weight, but I don't want him to overload his system.
I'm thinking of testing a few times today and maybe if he's still out of range starting with a drop in the morning. I can always increase if he needs more. What do you think?

It’s a good idea to test today and see how he’s doing. It would be really valuable info to test, feed, and test again in three hours to see if his pancreas is bringing his BG down.

I’m glad Brat is doing well at the clinic.

Have you ever heard of using egg yolk powder for constipation? It works well for motility. I see that FFL is sold out right now but you can also give a small amount (1/8 tsp to start) of raw egg yolk.

No, I have never heard of that. Interesting! I'm going to try that. Blues's sister takes Miralax so that could help her as well.

I'll test him now and then again before he eats at 3:30. He eats again at 8:30 so will try to test several times today to see where he is. He gets his prednisone at the 3:30 feed.

Blue is 284 tonight PMBG and it's probably as you all have said...the Prednisone. How should I
work it? It looks like giving it at 3:30 causes his BG to raise at the 8:00 test. I'm mad at myself because I wanted
to see out long it took to go up. I also wonder when it goes down so I'll test tonight around 11 unless someone
has another idea?

I'm really sorry that I don't know what to suggest to you about insulin, Patty. I've no experience of juggling steroids and diabetes. I hope that others may be able to give you a steer on that. Did you feed Blue after the 8pm test?

Really glad to hear the positive Brat update. (((Brat))) How's Teddy doing today?

Yes, Blue is eating like crazy again. I need to weigh him. He had gotten down to 6 pounds. I'll test him tonight to get a better idea how long
his BG stays up. I can't imagine giving insulin twice a day.

Teddy is doing so much better and the good news is I can pill him. I've also been able to put a drop of antibiotic in his eye! Crazy, but crazy good.
I'm not really sure how they missed this in the past. I'm also wondering how they missed Brat being so ill. I'm going to Dr. Johnson at my vet
clinic and she's a recent grad from vet school. I think I'm going to like her.

Noodle???
