Trying to do my grocery shop (delivery due tomorrow) and I don't know where I am with it. I'm worried about what's going to happen at the end of the transition period with regard to food supplies here and my head is in mush. :banghead:

I haven't been able to get on the site.

What do you mean by transition period? Were you able to get groceries? (((Mogs)))

Is Noodle okay? I think you said something earlier about her blood pressure... (((Noodle)))

The server fell over again earlier.

As you no doubt know, the UK ceased to be an EU member state at the beginning of the year. After the formal withdrawal the UK entered into a 'transition period' where, while we were no longer members of the EU, we were still able to fully participate in the Single Market and customs union with the same privileges as a member state (frictionless borders, no tariffs, etc.) till the end of 2020, unless the UK wished to extend the transition period for a fixed period of time. Even with the hammering the country is taking due to covid, those in government over here refused to exercise the option to extend the length of the transition period. Trade talks are still ongoing but things are getting uglier by the hour. If there's no agreement reached and ratified in some form before December 31 the UK will revert to trading on WTO terms with the EU.

If there's no agreement then, in addition to food prices going up with the imposition of tariffs (we currently import about 40% of our food from the EU) there will be shortages of permits for lorry drivers and there might be problems with UK planes having access to EU airspace, so that could potentially disrupt supplies of food and medicines (plus cause a whole raft of other craziness).

Because I'm housebound I can't really do ad hoc workarounds for groceries and stuff so it's a worrying time. That's why I'm struggling more than usual with the online grocery orders. I've already bought in extra supplies for Lúnasa so that her food supply will be secure for the next little while, but I don't know what to do about my own. :(

Lúnasa's OK (thank you for asking after her!). Her BP was right down at the bottom of the normal range earlier but I got her to move around a bit and gave her a nice big bowl of her Wonder Soup.™ It came up into a better range fairly quickly, thank goodness.

How's the Bluebird doing? Been thinking of you both all day. :bighug:

Oh Mogs, that sounds frightening to be in that situation. Our politics are a mess but you have bigger issues. I hope you can stock up and will be okay. Do you have family and friends you can rely on in the event you have no food or need something for your bug?
Blue has gone upstairs a couple of times to take a nap. He came down finally and is in his scale. I'm feeling sad but I think anyone would if they had to make the decisions I made today. I'm hoping and praying for remission.
I'll be curious to see his PMPS tonight.

You had a very stressful few weeks. Now that you have a plan try not to think about what will happen and try to put your energy into watching him heal. I know it’s much easier said than do. I bet his bg will not be above the low 100’s? What do you think?

You are correct!!! 103 PMPS

I'll try to do that Elise. You're right I need to watch him heal. The food they suggest is low carb so he's ahead of the game. They have someone that can advise about vitamins but would be a separate appt. They suggest Purina FortiFlora for his tummy. Do you have any experience with it? I already give him a probiotic.

I’m not sure why he would need fortiflora in addition to the probiotic. I would not make another appointment for vitamins. That’s ridiculous to make you do that. What are you thinking about insulin? I think I would skip.

Yes, I think skip. I think it would get too low if I gave anything.
I'm not sure about the fortiflora but maybe they think his tummy will get upset and it's better? I'm not really sure. I don't know much about it. I think I can research vitamins if necessary.
He seems okay tonight but they did say if he got sick it would be a day or two. I'm keeping a close watch on him. He's still eating!

What drug did he get? If it could cause nausea you think they would have given you zofran. You have it if needed. It’s common to give it with chemo. That’s when I learned about it. The small cell lymphoma group uses it routinely as the chemo they give makes cats very nauseous. Someone wrote an OT thread on her cat that was diagnosed with what thankfully Blue does not have. I was so relieved that I knew Blue didn’t have it when I read what the list vet said. He used to be on the large cell lymphoma and helped me with Tiffany. He also gave me a 3rd opinion for Max that saved him from exploratory surgery. I miss the list owner wasn't so difficult. I just read there for knowledge. I’m trying to establish a relationship with her in case I ever need that vet’s advice again.

She gave me Cerenia and an appetite stimulate Mirataz. She didn't think he'd get sick but just in case he was nauseous.
He was treated with Adriamycin.
I can scan some of the info like blood work tomorrow if you want to see it?

He’s not too old. When Tiffany had it, it was once a week for 6 weeks and then every 2-3. Every week for 6 months is a lot.

I'll scan the schedule tomorrow and show you what they wanted to give Blue. They said they would probably know within 6 weeks if he was responding so I figured he could just do the 6 weeks but they make you commit to 6 months. I thought that was too much for a little precious cat to take. I hope I've made the right decision.

I think you definitely made the right decision. I can’t believe they would make you commit to 6 months. That’s quite unfair. What if he wasn’t happy? Quality of life is what matters. I never would have done that either. Don’t give it a second thought. You did what’s best for Blue. :bighug:

Yes, I normally start a new one daily. I had to get up early and I am not a morning person...I'll do it in the morning.
I'm in bed and getting ready to turn out the light. I'm going to check on Blue first and make sure he doesn't need anything for nausea.
Hot chocolate for tonight. I do like Amaretto in it but am out.
