(((Blue)))

Hope the sniffles clear up OK as the day goes on.

Glad to see the Bluebird's numbers held well overnight, Patty.

How are you doing? Did you manage to get some sleep?

:bighug:

I'm pretty good. Trying not to dwell on Blue and just wait for the results. I did sleep and woke up
with a headache, I thinking from crying. I'm going to hydrate and if I have too I'll take something.
I do feel rested.

I hope the sniffles clear up too. Just what he doesn't need right now is to have something else to treat.

I'm very glad to hear you managed to get some proper rest, Patty. You badly needed a recharge. :bighug:

I increased the proportion of the CKD kibble a little bit in the Noodle's CKD/gastro food mix yesterday. She didn't eat as much and she's been hiding in the bathroom and behind the sofa since she ate some of the mix a couple of hours ago. I still suspect that she has some sort of low grade pancreatitis or IBD thing going on, and the CKD food just doesn't agree with her. :(

I screwed up the Noodle's med schedule yesterday and she didn't get any bupe last night. I feel like pond life right now. :banghead:

Oh no, trying to fool our Noodle with more CKD food and not the good stuff.
Is there another brand you could use that would still be good for her? I hope she doesn't have pancreatitis!
Don't beat yourself up Mogs. You'll get her back on track. :bighug:

Are you feeling okay?

About the same here.

Patty, I've just checked the Bluebird's spreadsheet. Can you confirm ASAP what dose you gave this morning? Was it 0.5IU or was that a typo?

How long ago did you give the dose?

Morning. Blue might have stress herpes. It happened to Tiffany. At the time I gave her lysine but lately they say it might not be effective. Just watch for any other symptoms. She had sniffles snd runny eyes. I hope it doesn’t effect his appetitive and leaves quickly.

I just heard from Dr. Whitehead at Blue Pearl. Blue has lymphoma. Of the 2 cancers it could have been at least this can be treated. He has an appointment with the oncologist at Blue Pearl at 9 a.m. She was a teacher at a vet school in Illinois and her field of study was lymphoma.

If it had to be any cancer, it’s the one. He will be on prednisolone but don’t worry about that. We will adjust the insulin. Make sure to get an RX for ondansetron. :bighug::bighug::bighug:You can use good RX to find the cheapest places to get the human meds. I like that they have a good oncologist and are getting him in quickly. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

What did they find out about your knee?

What is ondansetron?

I have a bone bruise. I'd never heard of that but it is new on the MRI so I'm not sure how it would happen.
A bone bruise is the inside of the bone being broken. I'm making an appointment with a new dr. because this one wants to do more surgery. :(

Ondansetron is a medication for nausea. I’m pretty sure they will give it to you. Buy first from them but ask for an RX and search the web. Meds from the vets are so much more expensive. Get the RX and buy on line. Good RX will help you find the best prices for all meds, vet and human for your cats. When I first started treating Tiffany for intermediate cell lymphoma, I thought her drugs were so expensive. Turns out they are when you just get a few. When you buy in quantities of 30 or more they are much less. I either have bought from Costco or on line. Sometimes my grocery pharmacy had good prices as well.

Gosh Patty, when it rains it pours. I wonder how the bruise happened. I hope you don’t need surgery.

I forgot to test Blue in a timely manner and he's 43 +2.5 I'm feeding him 20% with a drop of syrup and will retest in 30.

I don't want more surgery so I'm hopeful I can avoid it.

I looked up the medicine. It's Zofran. I didn't realize. I actually have some. I had ovarian cancer and had to take it after chemo. Gave me the worst headache ever!!! It's $6 at Kroger which is the pharmacy I use.

I second the recommendation for ondansetron. It's a really good med for nausea. I gave it to Saoirse for the pancreatitis; she'd not have been able to eat at all without it. I give it to Lúnasa because of the CKD. I don't think she'd be able to tolerate the amlodipine for her blood pressure.

Sorry to hear that it gave you a monster headache, Patty. :(

Depends on the cat.

Depending on the dose it can be given every 8 hours. Maximum dose according to Plumb's handbook is 4mg every 12 hours (for severe pancreatitis).

When Lúnasa was on the antibiotics I had her on 2mg q12. Now she's on 2mg q24h (given a couple of hours before her dose of amlodipine). Saoirse was initially on 1mg q8h, but over time I determined what worked best for her was 2mg q12h.

Usually you start on a smaller dose and titrate up to what works. It takes 24-48 hours to see how well a particular dose size/frequency works.

You can't see the inside of my head, Patty. It's a scary place. ;)

Had a quick scoot around online. Apparently prednisolone can cause GI upsets at higher doses. I can't offer any more than that because other than the occasional steroid jab for a couple of my cats (with no real explanation from the vets at the time about potential side effects - wasn't as assertive a critter parent in those days ) I've no real experience with this med.

Increased thirst and impact on BG levels seem to be the side effects most commonly highlighted, plus the need to taper down the dose when the meds have done their job.

ETA: Appetite increase is listed as another common side effect.

Elise, I think, may be able to give you more and better info.

His appetite is too good. I read it's part of the cancer so maybe that will change. I thought it had to do with his diabetes all this time but along with that is drinking and peeing a lot. Seems like identical symptoms.

He will not be managed by prednisolone alone. It will be IV chemo at times, pills at times, and a shot other times. Remission usually occurs in 6 weeks. The treatments or Tiffany was to use a mix of drugs. There are several different protocols so it will be interesting to see which is suggested. She had intestinal lymphoma and didn’t have any masses or noduals so Blue might be treated differently given the diabetes and different location and this was omg 23+ years ago. One protocol at the time was pills I think. Your appointment is tomorrow?

That’s good. You will learn a lot and should get lots of info to read.

Now about his insulin. I know you forgot to feed but he did drop under 50 so I think you need to reduce to the drop dose if he’s high enough to shoot tonight. What do you think Patty?
@Critter Mom ?

Okay that sounds fine. I can do that but will check to see where he is pmps. I'm worried about the morning since we'll be gone and I can't test him. Think I should skip in the morning?

Some of the Noodle's little foibles really make me smile. When it comes to dining, she is so well-mannered: almost invariably leaves two or three kibbles in the bowl. Bless! (((Noodle))) :)

(((Noodle bug)))

She was nice and just wanted to let me know she received the report. She offered to run CBC when necessary and to call and find out a time that's not busy. She wasn't the vet that did the Ultrasound and saw a mass, that was the other vet. It was okay.

So I do some of my best thinking while in the shower and I just washed my hair. I would call Blue Pearl and ask if they would send you all possible treatment options today. They have them easily accessible because I got mine on the first meeting but started that day so had no time to process the information. Tiffany started treatment that day. Actually she might have started it at the ER a week before I met the oncologist. I was very naive back then. If you don’t like this idea ignore it. :bighug:

I'm glad the call with the vet was OK, Patty.

I think Elise's suggestion above is good. It's difficult to process a huge amount of new information at the best of times, never mind when one is really worried and scared. I remember how overwhelmed I felt when hit by the tsunami of information here that I needed to get my head around for Saoirse's diabetes.

I'm not surprised you dozed off, Patty. I hope the nap did you good. :bighug:

How's the Bluebird?

((((Blue))))

Her brother was supposed to be called Conor but ended up as Psycho Fatboy the Third. He got the first part of the monicker because he was a right B to Tara, his littermate, when they were little - and he was a leg biter! :arghh:

Tara and Fats (his 'nice' name) were completely black, and my first two rescues. Tara had a hypermobile tail.

Mogs

I love black cats. Fats! I like it.

I did call Blue Pearl and they're going to send me something but the people aren't there in that area so I don't know what I'll get. The other thing I wondered is if he needed to fast again. I wouldn't think so but who knows.
