I really need more information to give any dosing advice. Please set up a spreadsheet when you can and put in all the tests done until now. Even a week or two will help. Add a signature too. I’d skip tonight but if you gave insulin already please let us know.

Hey guys sorry been away working for the holidays. Earl is doing very well. He’s been very energetic lately and hasn’t needed his insulin he’s been in the 170-200 range. Has a vet appointment Monday for acupuncture treatments. Last night it was a little up so he took insulin.

Hi Jeanne, I was wondering where you have been, I sorry you been sick.
I hope the tests come out negative. Please keep us updated. We miss you ♥:bighug::bighug:

Hey sorry Earl been at the vet in and out lately. He’s doing much better. Glucose curved yesterday at the vet all day. Numbers were all over the place. She thinks he could be going into remission but his cancer could be causing the high spikes and crazy numbers. He’s going once a week for a curve and diarrhea has subsided to almost normal.

His numbers the vet isn’t thrilled about. He ranged from 300s to 400s to low to 100s yesterday. She only did one dose of lantus for him. She said try one dose she for about a week check him periodically and see where it goes. Make sure he has food out daily.

@Mike Rozell This "Sticky" explains the insulin depot better than I ever could. >>>>>>
Sticky What is the Insulin Depot?

By only giving 1 dose of lantus insulin a day, you are letting that insulin depot fill, drain, fill, drain, fill, drain,................................ over and over again.
That is a more likely reason for the wild swings in the BG levels.
Appetite can also be a big contributing factor in the BG levels.
Will Earl eat consistently? Not sure if the cancer is affecting his sense of smell, and when cats can't smell well, they don't feel like eating.

Is Earl getting treatment for that cancer on his nose? Or are you trying for hospice level care right now?

I gave Earl another dose tonight he was 409. If I don’t double dose it won’t work. He’s on two medicines for his cancer takes it every morning.

Earl eats constantly and loves food. I leave food out for him when I’m at work.

Earl was 234 tonight ate had his insulin just don’t seem to be himself though. Staring into space isn’t playing? Any ideas?

Is he sitting in "meatloaf" position (sign of pain)?

Eating is a good sign, the 234 reading isn't "off" in either direction, not enough to change his affect like that, so it doesn't seem likely to be directly diabetes related?

Did you change anything (adding the potato starch you talked about, for example)?

No nothing. Maybe he’s just tired. I checked his sugar again 194. He does have cancer too maybe that’s the issue

Hmmm.... yeah, I know that you said he's on a couple meds for that, and while cats seem to cope much better than humans with that kind of thing, it still takes something out of them. So maybe it's just a bad day. You know him best, so you'll be able to judge if he takes a serious downturn.

Give him some extra snuggles tonight!

Thanks it’s so hard I feel bad for him.

Hi guys sorry it’s been a while. Had a flood in the house and works been insane. Earl has been great!! He maybe in remission soon. He’s been in the 130s-300s last few weeks. He’s such a happy boy too!!!
Vet visit for acupuncture today for his cancer!

Hey, Mike!

Good to get an update from you. I'm sorry about your flooding but it's great to hear that Earl is doing well and feeling happy! That's a cracking picture of him. He looks like such a sweetie. :cat:

How’s everyone doing?
I'm still knackered, and my civvie, Lúnasa (aka The Noodle), had a two-day-long bad trip after a dose of gabapentin last week. That's all the news that's fit to print. Thanks for asking. :)

Fingers and paws crossed that the acupuncture will do your little fella a power of good. Be sure to let us know how he gets on.

Thanks guys! His vet visit was okay. She’s very pleased with his insulin levels lately he can be in remission if it keeps up. The cancer is her concern. He will be on pain medicine daily.

Just a quick question. Since he’s come home from his vet visit he’s been acting strange. Staring into space. He’s eating, Drinking tons I mean tons. He’s going potty no diarrhea or anything abnormal. His insulin levels aren’t to high or low. Just wanted to get suggestions? Didn’t just wanna give karo spike his sugar but not sure what else to do?

Same pain meds but the doseage is higher

Hmmm.... I think if it were me I'd give the vet a call. It does sound like it might be too much of a good thing, and you'll want to know if Earl will likely get used to the new dosage or if it might be better to look for other things to control his pain. Sounds like he definitely needs the pain control, poor little guy.

Or, of course, if it's something else, the vet would be the best person to figure it out. The extra drinking might be a clue, but it's not one I can interpret, so I'd definitely consult a vet about all of it.

Which pain med is Earl being given (buprenorphine, other)? Also, when he's a bit spacey, do his pupils get really dilated? Is he vocalising more, or unusually affectionate?
