? 11/29 Henry PMPS 160 +1.5 106 + 2 72 +2.5 76 + 3 99 + 4 82 + 5 107 + 7 138

Henry's BG reading minutes ago @ PMPS is (150) (6:00pm EST)

Delay and retest no food in 30 minutes?

Delay BG reading is (160) ==> his new PMPS

Slowly transition Henry to wet food

He's now 67/13 - (wet/dry) total of 80 Calories times (4) daily almost there

84% wet and 16% dry

Another question - WHY? did Henry drop from @AMPS + 5.5 (359) to AMPS + 12 (150)????

To me it's puzzling because he's at the end of 12 hour duration???

Just performed BG reading on Henry at PMPS + 1.5 - (106) (8:00pm EST)

Will feed Henry wet (LC) 7% carbs - (2) tsps

Will check BG in 30 minutes (PMPS + 2) (8:30pm EST)

He’s clearing the bounce. That will happen if you recall from one of my previous posts on bounce-clearing cycles. It’s normal.

You are going to have a busy night so I’d suggest editing the subject line so you take out the AMPS cycle numbers. I’d be sure and test at +2.

Is it possible to have (2) earned reductions in less than a week?
Absolutely but he hasn’t earned bother reduction yet.

Marje Henry's BG reading is 72 @ PMPS +2

(2) tsps of MC 16% carbs feed him?

Henry just consumed (2) tsps 16% carb wet food

Next BG reading in 30 minutes PMPS + 2.5

Just fed Henry (2) tsps of Wet 16% carb and he consumed it
Did you see what I listed above in #14?

You want to be careful about feeding too much 16% food because:
  • You don’t want him to get full because lower numbers can last a long time
  • You don’t want to mess with his duration just in case this is still the higher dose of 4.75u going out with a bang (unlikely since this is the sixth cycle at 4.5u)
  • It takes about 30 mins from the time he eats until the food until the carbs start to affect the BG so you don’t want to overdo the carbs. The goal is to get him to stop dropping and just surf flat and not over carb him.
You want to be sure and reduce the dose again by 0.25u to 4.25u. Once you switch to TR when he’s fully on wet, we can introduce the concept of “shooting through the bounce” but we don’t generally do that with SLGS.

Marje Yes I did but timing got in the way crossover.

So gravy (10% Carb) moving forward from here if necessary?

Henry BG Reading @ PMPS + 3 is (99)
Too late I fed Henry (1) tsps gravy (10%)
We did remove the bowl of (1) tsps of gravy he got most of but not all
It’s really important, when someone is helping you with lower numbers, to take a deep breath and wait for advice unless the BG is really low (as in 30s on a human meter in which case you want to go straight to the syrup or in the 40s on a human meter early in the cycle).

What I try to do is give you the best option for feeding to keep from overcarbing him and helping him stay in normal numbers longer so his pancreas can heal. I would have advised that you not feed a 99. With that BG, you can give him a break and test at +4. No more food for now :)

edited to add: you can stack all tests from +2 to +3 in the +2 box like you did the other night. Then all the tests from +3 - +4 go in the +3 cell.

OK no more food unless advised by you moving forward (yes I was in slight panic mode)

I will post BG @+ 4 and wait for your response on how to proceed

Marje since Henry earned a reduction (4.25 Units) and I did the PMPS @ 6:30pm EST should I give the AMPS @ 6:30am EST or can I move the AMPS @ 6:15am EST, 15 minutes sooner?

Second question is Henry's structured diet (80) calories (4) times daily (6:00am, 11:30am, 6:00pm, & 11:30pm)

Does this episode change his usual (80) calories @ 11:30pm which would be PMPS + 5???

Oh I forgot to mention his WET FOOD tonight is FF Turkey (7% Carb)

I’d shoot at your normal time. When you are trying to get back on schedule, you can do it 15 mins a cycle or 30 mins once a day. You can read more about that here.

Let’s see where he is at +4 before we decide about a +5 meal.

Good NEWS Marje Henry's PMPS +4 DROPPED to (82)

Good so you can tell how the food affects him and for how long.

He’s completely safe at this number but he has dropped so I’d try a tsp or two of the 10% gravy. The other option is to feed him a tsp or so of 7% but I don’t want him to get too full and I also thought it would be good to actually feed him food, not just gravy, at his normal time (+5).

Then let’s retest at +5 before you feed him the +5 meal.

OK, Just fed Henry (1) tsps of 10% carb gravy he consumed it

Test at PMPS + 5 and wait for your response to determine how to proceed with his 11:30pm EST meal ( wet Turkey 7% / dry food 5%) ratio of wet/dry - 67/13 total 80 calories

Just performed Henry's BG reading @ PMPS + 5 (107)
You can feed him his regular meal. I’d get one more reading before you go to bed and be sure he doesn’t drop. Let’s hope he stays flat.

Good luck with the new dose in the morning.

any questions?

Good time for next reading +??? to determine a drop or not

I believe you usually do a +6? That’s fine so you can get to bed. He’s close to nadir. Or if you want to lie down a couple hours, you can just test at +7....up to you.

Man I will be glad when I get past this learning curve and I will
yes... you will :) You learn more every day but, honestly, there’s always something to learn.

Marje when I do a BG reading in the AMPS is there number that I would delay the 4.25 units
Any number between 90 and 150 that you are not comfortable shooting without help. But, you’ve got some data now and you see how he responds to food so you should definitely shoot 150 or above on time.
