I think I gave my first fur shot tonight! :banghead::banghead::banghead: I am so mad at myself! I’m assuming protocol is to leave it be? I saw some liquid after we were finished, but not sure if I pulled it out too soon without knowing.

That's right, Olivia. Any time you fluff giving the injection you chalk it down to experience and wait till the next dose is due. The reasoning behind this is that one can never be sure whether or not any insulin was delivered under the skin. For safety, you never give a second injection.

I don’t think I’ve ever given a “fur shot” before last night. Very frustrating to say the least. He was in a different position and I did not move him—I should have, though. Hindsight is 20/20.

Fur shots have happened to all of us. You could still monitor later in the cycle, to see if the BG levels are still coming down some.

And then you move right along to the next cycle and see if the BG levels are holding in a good range.

    Tomorrow is another day.

It was last night, so he received his dose this morning (thank goodness). He’s been a happy boy all day. :cat: His ears are starting to heal from the bruising. Ugh I feel terrible about that. I did get a +6 in today.

Well, we just about pulled an all-nighter last night. I eventually had to go to bed because I had to teach today. My boy got down to 92 last night! Should we continue on with 3.25 U? @Deb & Wink @JanetNJ

Data for today, 11/18/20 is a string of pretty steady yellow BG numbers. That can sometimes say the bounce is breaking or about to break.

You are using MPM protocol, so the reduction point is <50 mg/dL.

Yay! Thank you so much for being so kind and patient! That goes to @Deb & Wink and @Panic , too! I wish I could send each of you chocolates. I am forever grateful.

I hope your school year is still going well. We were supposed to have a week off for Thanksgiving, but it was shortened due to a delayed start. We will have Wednesday through Friday off—hoping you’re getting a full week!

Good for you on shooting the full dose, after you stalled.
Look back at your SS, back at the beginning of September. You can see the difference that the MPM dosing protocol is making for Little Bit!

    Yeah Little Bit!

I'm stocked up quite well on chocolate. ;) But thank you for the thought! :) (Amazon, bags of Dove chocolate with 150 pieces, just arrived earlier this week)

    Hi Olivia,

Sorry I'm not able to help on the Prozinc side of things (not used it).

I suggest you either start a new thread with a title along the lines of "Prozinc Dosing Advice Needed" plus an indication of how urgently you need the help (e.g. add the word "Stalling" to the title). Alternatively change the title of this thread.

Thanks, Mogs! I changed the title of the thread. I’m nearly an hour out, so it looks like we will most likely do a token dose.

He was sniffing around where I gave his brother temptations earlier... wonder if there were a couple left and he snuck them? Would a few (at most) make that much of a difference?

But that was waaayy earlier like right after I gave him his insulin. The other three get treats when he does.

Plus the holidays are coming up, so the message board is usually quieter then too.

Temptations = high carbs. Perhaps find a different pure protein treat for your other kitties, the civies? So that Little Bit can't potentially sneak 1 (or a few).
They take a while to digest too, and can stay in a cat's digestive system for quite some time.

I think that must have been what happened. Especially now since you said they take awhile to digest. Our bag of Dr. Elsey’s Clean Protein came in today and I would venture to say my cats like it just as much, if not more, than Temptations! That will be a much safer/healthier replacement. My cats do not care for any of the Pure Protein treats that I’ve given them, unfortunately.

Wink loved the Halo Liv-a-little freeze dried chicken. The company changed how they are made, and they don't crumble as well as they used to.

The Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein chicken flavor is a nice alternative, for a dry crunchy treat. It wasn't available, way back when I first got Wink.

I think the market for high protein, better quality cat food & treats has greatly increased over the years. It’s amazing how so many are now cognizant of what they’re feeding their pets and how it will affect them.
Mine also like the Orijen freeze dried treats and they crumble well. :) Have to have options! Haha

hey there! I noticed you switched from alphatrak2 to relion. How confusing was it to do that switch? And I don't think my vet is very knowledgeable with human meters. I understand on the fur shot! I've given my fair share. I usually cry afterwards because I feel so stupid and then hope for the best in the PM.

Hi! It is not confusing once you understand how the numbers work on the human meter—I’ve read in the higher numbers, there’s about a 20% difference, and as the numbers decrease, they’re more similar. It also helps not to focus on the numbers being high, but to focus on what works to bring your kitty down to a safer number. My vet has not ever pushed me to test (which is why it took me 11 months to begin testing), so he has never asked for his BG levels to review. I think he will be open to it and thankful for the information when we have his annual appointment. He is very kind and knowledgeable, so I hope he understands the reason for the meter switch was solely based on the absurd price of Alphatrak test strips.
LB has been getting injections for over a year and that was my first fur shot! Mistakes happen, and, like you said, you just keep persevering and trying your best at the next injection time.
