Some higher dose cats react well to just smaller changes of doses than others. 9.75 units might be an experiment to think about.

I had noticed the ketones staying down, good job.

I've cut back on the ketone testing a bit. I'm only doing it if he stays high for a long time (a day or so). Seems like now even when he stays high for a while ketones aren't coming up much.

I'll think about 9.75; not a bad idea. I'm also noticing another possible pattern, though it could be my imagination. Looking at his graph, it seems like the longer he's gone without a dip out of the 300s, the deeper the dip is. Maybe the antibodies accumulate more insulin over time, so if it's been longer when they cut loose there's more to dump? I might go through and systematically look at the data rather than eyeballing it, to see if there's anything to it.

Good thing Oberon has a scientist as a caregiver! Out of curiosity, what is your background? My degree in math came in handy.

After reading this, I had to go back and look at Neko's year one. For her the patterns were a little harder to see, mostly cause she wasn't stuck in pink. She liked a range of colours from yellow to red (with the odd black :blackeye:) as her "home base". Though she did have the 9-14 days between greens happening for a bit. Then the blues got longer, the greens got longer and closer together. That was the sign the exogenous insulin was starting to take the battles. I do know I had to keep the hammer down in terms of increases or the antibodies would push back.

Undergrad degree in ecology, PhD in physiology, with a focus on reptiles and amphibians. I teach freshman bio, ecology, evolution, herpetology, and animal physiology/physiological ecology. So I've got a basic grounding in the stuff we need to know here, and I'm a data geek.

Interesting... wonder if we'd see this same pattern in other IAA kitties.

So I ran the numbers for my idea above... I looked at dip nadirs below 200, and how long it had been since the previous nadir below 200. If he goes into a dip within less than 10 cycles of the last big dip, the nadir of the dip is likely to be blue. If it's been 10 cycles or more, the nadir is more likely to be green. If I looked instead at nadirs below 250 or so (including some of the shallower dips), the pattern was still there but a bit messier. (Note: this is the nadir of the dip, not of a particular 12 hour Lantus cycle.)

Yep. Though it probably won't change much in terms of what I'm actually doing. Just tells me that if he hasn't had a dip in 9 cycles I should probably clear my calendar and stock up on caffeine.

Mid pinks all day today; stuck with 9.5 U of Lantus and 1.25 U of R this evening. Might bump up to 9.75 starting tomorrow morning.
