There have been some mild cases and the cats did recover. Cornell has the scientists who have been working with the cats that caught it at the zoo as well as cases within domestic cats.

The test for cats and dogs is different from the ones for humans and requires regulatory approval. CDC lists confirmed cases in pets here:

I heard yesterday they may employ veterinarian labs to develop covid vaccines. For expedience sake.
