I somehow blanked out this morning and after drawing the insulin from the vial I put the syringe down without completing the step of pushing to the right dose. A few minutes later I had the food ready just picked up the syringe and shot, imeediatly realizing that I never adjusted the dose.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

We are using a U100, and I intended to give him 0.8. I reckon I may have given him as much as 1.4; but suspect it was more like 1.1

I will keep monitoring him and have a few HC ready. However, is there anything I can/should do?

Stupid me :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: He was doing well lately.....:arghh:

Having a look, BRB

I see you are using U100 syringes.......so the dose of the prozinc you normally give is a bit over 0.25 U if you were using a U 40 syringe.....is that correct?
Is your kitty eating well?
I would continue to test every hour at least until nadir (which could be later than normal with the larger dose) and if the BG drops I would feed and retest 20 minutes later.
The 1.2 U dropped your kitty into greens 2 weeks ago
Can you post the hourly BG please?

@Bron and Sheba (GA)

Oops something happened with my connection. Just saw your message. Thanks for replying.
the prozinc dose if I was using a U40 would have been 0.8U (I had already translated from U100 volumes to insulin units). I am guessing I could have given him as much as 1.4 (which he hasn't seen....:nailbiting:)
But I'm really, really hoping it wasn't more than 1.2, since usually I draw an extra tick in the syringe. However, I am not trusting my brain at all today!

5.5

Is that stopping? is lower, but not too much? within 20%?
It’s slowed the drop. That’s good.
I think I would give him a teaspoon of the HC again now....we don’t want to fill him up though because we don’t know when the nadir is going to be. Do you think he will keep eating for you?
I would test again in 30 minutes.

I would keep in the back of your mind, that if he continues to drop you might need to get to a vet quickly....hopefully this won’t happen but please be prepared just in case.
You are doing very well!

Thanks Bron!
I've never seen him refuse food unless he is really ill. So I'll give him a bit more.

I call the vet just to let them know the situation. They are very close, but they also already have two emergencies in .....
I am really hoping we won't need to go in.

Argh! I can't believe how stupid i've been! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Good idea to just let the vet know. Hopefully you won’t need to go in but always good to have a planB.
So far he’s doing OK..always helps to have a good eater!
Don’t beat your self up...these things happen.
See you +4

Will do.

This might be the bounce building.... He is quite the bouncer! Let's hope it doesn't comp[letely screw all the good progress :(
I’d be surprised if it was a bounce just yet....more likely just responding to the HC food. The HC will wear off so by giving some low carb food in 1/2 hour hopefully that will help him surf in good numbers.

8.1

Bron, I think you and I are released :D :bighug:

Thank you so much for you help! I'll continue to keep a close eye on him, but was thinking I can let him be until 6.5. I bet he will just keep going up now. I didn't even had to use the honey I was so frantically trying to melt back into liquid.... (hope I am not jinxing myself :nailbiting:)

You managed the stressful situation very well!!
Good idea to get a +6.5 to see that he hasn’t decided to drop again.
Good boy Hercules as well!
I'm assuming I go back to normal dose at PM?

I was thinking about upping him after collecting data today.... I wonder if I should delay any decision making?
I’d just give a normal dose tonight and then see tomorrow what you think.

14 @ 6.5

I wish he wasn't such a bouncer! But I guess it will save his ears today ;)
I'll lay the lancets down until PMPS....
Do we want to take guesses if it will be red or black?

(i'm voting black.... Hope I'm wrong!)

Wow I am in awe of how well you coped with this today - you & Bron are the A team!!

Don't beat yourself up about it these things happen at least you realised what had occurred & did the right things to fix it !
:bighug:

Hmm...He is getting too much of a taste for these dives....It look like a pj party tonight :(

This evening I am quite sure I gave him the right dose, and he went from 18 to 8 in 2 hours!

See, @SashaV , Hercules has not yet learned that he is supposed to go gently down after the insulin, and gently up after the nadir. Maybe we can get him and Mauer (and @KyraCat) in sugarcat night school....:p

I don't know much about Prozinc, but IIRC it is possible to get significant carryover from one dose to the next with this insulin so this morning's dose may be influencing numbers in this PM cycle.

(Prozinc mavens, please can you correct the above if it's not accurate!)

Morning , Bron!

Yes, I'll have to adjust his food. He wasn't doing this before....but it is an ever changing landscape....
I'm gettig tired and grumpy. I would love to have a 10 hour sleep, so I keep dreaming that we will get on some kind of routine. Never mind...He is getting nicer numbers, so that is what it matters!

I’m sure you would like to get 10 hours straight sleep. I was chronically tired when I was looking after Sheba. But it is all worth it.
You must grab your sleep when you can. Even when I was testing Sheba hourly or 1/2 hourly during the night I set the alarm and slept inbetween tests. I was lucky enough to fall asleep easily and always wake with the alarm.
