Little 7/7/20 Pmps 188 11 days at 3.75U

Hi all,
I left Little longer on this dose than TR would suggest do to the bouncing as well as the fireworks and crazy storms that have rolled through here for the last week. She is a terrified anxiety ridden kitty and those things seem to effect her numbers in addition to the fact that she is a wonderful trampoline competitor. I would say she is due for a dose increase but after 11 days at 3.75 with 3 limes in the 40’s makes me worry. I can only assume if I up her to 4U (which is scary to me in and of itself) she will have some dips into or below the 40s. With tonight’s PMPS of 188, I’m guessing she will either go low this evening or bounce sky high. Do you recommend the dose increase now or should I give her even more time at 3.75U ? She’s had some nice cycles but always seems to bounce. Thank you as always for all the advice and talking me off cliffs. You’d think I’d be better at this by now but still makes me nervous !

3 times between 40 and 49 on three separate days earns a dose reduction, not an increase.

ETA: Reminder: *earning* reductions and starting OTJ trials
Thank you Wendy. I appreciate you and everyone here more than I can say. I’m sorry but need to make sure I understand. Are you saying even though I held the dose longer than TR says, that tomorrow I should reduce to 3.5? Forgive my thick head. I interpreted the reduction protocol to be following TR which would be 3 drops below 50 in 5 days max. Since I held the 3.75 longer and the drops were over 11 days I was not sure what to do. When she was on 3.5 previously, I followed TR pretty close. 6 days instead of 5 due to my schedule and available to monitor. At 3.5 she only had one 40 reading in the 5 day protocol indicated by TR so I increased . I know from her history that it does take her a while to clear a bounce... maybe longer than most kitties. Are you thinking I should have held 3.5 longer to clear the bounce? Do you think the bouncing could be too much insulin? Maybe I should have held all her doses a bit longer than TR protocol to give her the time needed to clear? I feel like no matter what I do I cannot get her consistent. Back and forth with no real decent dose.:banghead:

There is no where in the TR protocol that says "5 days max" for reductions. You hold the dose going UP the dosing scale a maximum of five days. The 3 times between 40 and 49 is for cats that are considered to not hold reduction well. Alternatively, you can wait until Little goes under 40, cause she is a long term diabetic. Some people used the 3 between 40 and 49 as an alternate to once under 40.

Little seems to be taking 3-4 cycles to clear the bounce. You don't hold a dose to clear a bounce. Check out this great post by Libby.

Again many thanks. I read a lot and was still confused.but looking at Lucy’s SS helped me think clearer. I will reduce today at AMPS to 3.5. I think I have COVID brain from being trapped so long That I literally cannot think straight. It’s hard to wrap my brain around going back to a dose that didn’t seem to work a week ago. I guess I was still thinking I’m going to find a good dose and hold it in perpetuity, not that there still may be the possibility of remission. Wish me luck. I love this girl so much. Don’t know what I would have done without her during this quarantine. Thank you Wendy :bighug:
