I am trying to make sense of Ducote's numbers but it seems to only be getting more and more confusing.

Currently he is on 2.75 but I stayed up last night to do a +5 and he was 84 so his current dose for today with his reduction would be 2.5 units.

Although he is showing much better numbers than he was on the Vetsulin, I still feel like I can't figure out the right dose due to constantly having to stall and eventually giving a reduced dose. His inconsistency in doses in driving me mad o_O

This morning he had to stall again and when he got to 150 I gave him a reduced dose of 2 instead of the 2.5. My question is: Should I just go with the 2 for a few cycles and see if it is a better dose since the 2.75 was causing stalls at almost every precheck?

Awwwww (((((Heather))))) I know I'm no help with these issues but just wanted to give you a virtual :bighug:. I do know it can get very confusing and frustrating (I remember those days) I remember wishing I had phone numbers of the people helping me through this. Of course I would never ask. lol
I think you just have to hang in there until this all does make sense. It aint fair by amy means but then what in life is?
We feel your frustrations Always remember this is not a sprint. Its a marathon :bighug:

Assuming you're using the SLGS protocol, Ducote earned a reduction on the 23rd, you reduced from 3u to 2.75, and then the next day you got a HI reading and bumped him back up to 3u.
On the 28th, PMP was a little low, you stalled (good) and he went up to 150 but you only gave 1u. The next morning he was 150 and you gave 2u. You seem scared of giving full dose a lot, which is understandable. Part of the reason his numbers are all over the place are because his dose is all over the place.

Perhaps @Deb & Wink can give you some more solid guidelines to shoot by. You also may consider switching to MPM method, where reductions are given below 50 instead of 90. It would keep his dose a little more steady.

You are so right, low numbers make me so hesitant to give a full dose :nailbiting: My lower doses really started coming into play after the episode on 6/23. I gave his full 3 units when he read 165 (after a stall) and it brought him down to 51 and I had to intervene. My lower doses are normally for the low night PMPS because I know that I would not be awake to catch the low and it scares me. I was giving 1.5 when his numbers were around 175 and 1 unit when they were around 150. This morning I went ahead with the 2 units for 150 because I was thinking about starting the 2 for a few cycles to see if he levels out (meaning that the 2 I gave this morning was meant to be a full dose from here on). I want a consistent dose so badly so I was going to try the 2 for a while just to see and go up from there.

I won't sugarcoat it; I've spent a lot of nights up with a low-BG kitty. Her record was keeping me up until 5:30am and even then she was still somewhere in the upper 60s I think. Getting a +2 every night will give you a fair warning of what's going to happen that night. You can always set your alarm to go off at +4 or whatever to check him. Remember that we WANT him to stay in those low numbers, his pancreas doesn't start healing until he gets around 100 or less. Don't be too afraid to let him get better! :)

I was very scared to shoot low numbers I feel your pain! My boy likes to take long low dives and he was dx 5 years ago!
The first thing that stuck in my head was KNOW THY CAT-this is so true. All this data your getting is a great way to know thy cat and how he will respond and you can help a "dive" by feeding a little higher carb before it happens.

You are doing great and lots of knowledge on this forum...:bighug:
