It does help them, specially for mobility issues (artritis) and also to help them with some vitamin deficiencies, appetite, loss of muscle mass and kidneys, I do give it to Babu- Chiri and used to give to one of my civies and I do think it has helped themHi everyone,
I was wondering if need to give my senior cat a B12 supplements or any other supplements, I am only using fish oil but i read a lot about B12 for older cat.
is any one using B12 and can i use the one for human?
It's safe to give. Any excess just gets peed out. What i understand that if my cat does not suffer from anything that need B12 i do not need to give it to her?
she is doing fine but i just want to give it to her as additional supplements if it is safe?
Is safe as they mentioned any excess just gets peed off and it does help considering that elder cats don't process nutrients as well as young ones and most do have a bit of muscle loss and arthritis (even if it's minor and not noticeable yet)which B12 helps slow a bitWhat i understand that if my cat does not suffer from anything that need B12 i do not need to give it to her?

Thank youAlot of members use this , I use it myself you can buy it on line from Vitacost
Vitacost Vitamin B-12 Methylcobalamin -- 5000 mcg - 100 Capsules
It's 17.99 just be sure this is the one you buy
The only difference is the Zobaline has 200 mcgs of folic acid
So I buy the folic acid at the supermarket and crush it up and add it to the B-12
If you can't find the 200 mcg get the 400 mcg and cut it in half
The Vitacost brand is a capsule so just open it and pour the powder on the wet food
Has no taste, no need to crush it up
The Zobaline is 33.99 for 60 pills, too expensive
I saw a big improvement I'd say 3 months, could be sooner. One capsule a day

Yes any brandThank you
so it is ok to buy any brand of folic acid
So Zobaline is different from the regular B12, i can use it even if my cat is not neuropathy?!!I also give my cats the vitacost one I just use the 500 mu since is not for neuropathy some get 1 capsule a day and only one whose CKD was more advanced got 2 (that would be 1000mu)
And you could consider also giving him B vitamin complex on top of the B12
You tried them together at one time??!!!i have used both vitacost and zobaline.
I used vitacost with one cat a few years ago who was anemic but not diabetic and zobaline with cc who is diabetic. I sometimes take the vitacost myself. With neuropathy, if you can afford it is use zobaline because it's higher mcg.You tried them together at one time??!!!
I am confused now!!
so if i can afford Zobaline? It would be enough to use
even if my cat is not neuropathy
Yes if you can afford zobaline that is more than enough but if your cat doesn't have neuropathy you can give vitacost since it will be to help him and avoid vitamin deficiencies but is either one or the otherso if i can afford Zobaline? It would be enough to use
even if my cat is not neuropathy

I thought that if it is not going to hurt i will give it to her as supplement vitamin , but if it is better ti check with my vet then i will do it at next appointment. This 5 teeth extraction was really hard on her, we are at day 7 and she is still feeling uncomfortable plus i am worried about her last blood test , the vet said her Bun and creatinine was little elevated and he wants to retest after 2 weeks. Will i noticed that she is pee little more times than before but i thought it is because of the heat here since she drinks little more but not that much plus there is no any other sign , her appetite still good.I wouldn’t, personally, give my cat methylcobalamin unless she had neuropathy or had CKD and her hematocrit was dropping. B12 shots are usually for cats with GI issues. I’d check with my vet because you would have to get that from the vet anyway.
I’m also not sure why you would give folic avid unless levels are low. You can have your vet run a cobalamin and folate Test. It’s a blood draw they send to Texas A&M.
You should do what you feel is best for your cat. I prefer to give my cats what they need and not give them things that they don’t need. That’s why I suggest you work with your vet. Once you get her labs, if they show she needs B vitamins, then it would br appropriate.I thought that if it is not going to hurt i will give it to her as supplement vitamin , but if it is better ti check with my vet then i will do it at next appointment. Bottom line.....it is your decision.
