Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is safe and healthy! Remember safety measures as stores and services open up! We're just starting to open things up here in Ontario.

Birds in my yard this week include 3 Gray Catbirds AND there was an Oriole at my feeder yesterday, although I haven't seen him today. This is the first time I've had an oriole in my yard and I was very excited! Oh, and I also have a couple of male Goldfinches visiting for seed.

Spring migration....well Ontario has been stuck in this cold arctic vortex that of course includes north winds....well the birds need south winds to help them cross the Great Lakes. So it appears most of them are flying around the lakes and missing southwestern Ontario. A few warblers have come in but not many; I've only seen 6 kinds in total!

This week's wildlife include a Yellow-Rumped Warbler, a Gray Catbird (from my backyard), a bunny, a Palm Warbler, a White-Crowned Sparrow (also from my backyard), a House Wren, a Philadelphia Vireo, a Killdeer chick, a Baltimore Oriole and today's find a Bald Eagle!

Beautiful the grey cat bird is banded, are they endangered? Love the Orioles, they are so colorful.
Thanks Paula! Yes I noticed the catbird is banded...I intend to look through the other photos of it to see if I can determine the entire banding number. Not endangered as far as I know but there are areas that catch the birds to band them in order to track them.
I love Orioles too! Had one in my yard for the first time on Sunday, I didn't see it yesterday, but there is one back today YAY!

Hi Judy, That's interesting about the strong north winds keeping the birds from flying their usual routes over the Great Lakes. I wonder if the weird weather we have been having is disrupting the Eastern flyway, too.
Here the usual residents are busy. I have 2 pairs of Chickadees, a pair of Goldfinches, and a pair of Cardinals that visit my feeders. A Nuthatch tried to make a nesting hole in the side of our house, but appears to have given up. We hear a Great Horned Owl in woods about a block away.
How neat that you were able to get a picture of the Oriole. I love all of your photos this week. You have so many different birds in your area.
Have a good week. We've had some snow for the last 4 days. Maybe it will get warmer soon, maybe!
Walked on the Bloomingdale Bog today (on an old railroad bed) and saw a Canada Jay.

Get those orange slices out, that's what attracts them. I get one that just flies through on its way north.
Got them out as well as grape jelly and sugar water! The oriole skipped one day but has been back at least a couple of times each day since! Makes me happy to see him!

Thanks Ella!
I've never seen a Canada Jay, they don't hang around this area. Today I saw a male Scarlet Tanager! What an absolutely gorgeous bird! Saw him this morning then again this afternoon; many photos taken as you can imagine! We had snow a couple of days ago :arghh::(:confused: but today was an absolutely beautiful spring day!

Beautiful photos Judy! Love the splashy Oriole! Friends in Michigan have been seeing them, rose breasted gross beaks and the humming birds are back as well...

Thank you so much for sharing!

Lovely photos Judy. I didn’t get around to commenting on last weeks photos but they were gorgeous.
This weeks photos are full of spring.
I particularly love the baby killdeer. We call them plovers out here in Australia. The babies look like little balls of fluff.
I once came across a mother and father plover walking their babies across the road near my home. The mother (I’m sure it was the mother) stopped in the middle of the road, faced me and spread her wings wide to tell me to stop and all the babies huddled down towards the ground. I stopped the car and she eventually took them safely across the road. She was such a brave mama plover.

Thanks Bron!
The Killdeer will fly/yell to distract you from their nearby babies and they will also fake a broken wing!

We don't see Hares here, just the tiny adorable and vulnerable bunnies. They only come out in the dark and can be so motionless they're hard to spot.
It's hard to imagine Ansel Adams lugging that huge camera and a wooden tripod up rocky trails, then doing his own darkroom work. His biography is amazing.
I have seen a couple of baby bunnies but unfortunately they've run/hid before I could get any decent shots.
