Okay so, I’ve been monitoring her +2 in the evenings for a few days now. And I owe that to @Deb & Wink who twisted my arm ever so gently and kindly and it’s yet one more thing we have now successfully added to the routine, so thank you Deb! I have a few questions so here we go:

1. Her midday BG has stayed pretty high, higher than 150 the last few days and I’m thinking that I should increase the dose. Of course when she was on 3units it dropped too low, so I’m wondering even though we say to have the same dose am and pm, if I should try 3 units in the am and keep the 2.75 at night when she eats a lot less, which brings me to my next question

2. I don’t know what to do to get her to eat overnight. I looked into the feeder with chip and timer and I honestly doubt she’ll use it. It’s hard enough to get her to eat during the day. I have to hold up the bowl to her face, rotate, sometimes help with my finger. Yes, she’s got me wrapped around her little tiny adorable pink paw but it’s the only way she eats now. I left a food bowl by her bed in the evening and nothing. I’ve tried the catsicles idea too and again nothing. Any other thoughts?

3. When you guys look at the ss, please look at the notes column where I indicated all the days she woke up nauseated and vomited. I read a catcentric article Wendy shared with me about how cats should not be on omeprazol and/or Pepcid long term and now I’m only giving her Pepcid at night but the nausea/vomit is happening more frequently. She eats okay after the ondansetron sets in. I have a vet appointment on Tuesday for a senior blood panel to rule out low potassium and/or electrolytes. I also feel she drinks very little water. I feel like somedays she doesn’t drink at all but she pees 2-3 times a day so go figure...

4. I really want to transition her to a better food and I found Rawz which seems to not have any red flag ingredients like agar agar (bummed that Hounds and Gatos has that) or peas or anything else bad for her. They also say they source all the meat locally humanely and it’s all human grade. They have a rabbit pumpkin flavor the rep I spoke with said works really well for the consumers who have cats with IBD and it’s still only about 7% carbs. The salmon is less than 2%. I guess I just want a few others to take a loot and make sure I didn’t miss anything

Thanks!

1. Different doses AM and PM would cause the insulin "depot" to drain, and really throw off the BG levels. Not a good idea.

2. Sprinkle something tempting on top of the food. Parmesan cheese, dried bonito flakes, powdered ground up freeze dried cat food, catnip. Fortiflora. More ideas in this Health Links/FAQS thread. Suggestions on How to Stimulate Kitty's Appetite

But I'm not sure that Minnie's appetite is the issue. I think she is nauseous for whatever reason so doesn't want to eat.

3. Don't know what else you can do for the vomiting. Ask your vet.
Not drinking as much water is typical of a cat that has been switched from dry to wet food. They are getting the bulk of the moisture they need from the wet food.

Have your vet check the liver and kidney values. I had a cat many years ago with liver issues and she vomited all the time. Vet never did find the root cause of the vomiting, but my cat was put on Denamarin for life.

4. Those Rawz cat foods look reasonable to me. Only checked out a couple of flavors.

I do think that Minnie is going to be ready for a dosecrease (dose increase) in a few cycles.

I’ve tried sprinkling kitty caviar which is the Bonita flakes but it only works if I’m feeding her. I’ll check the link though

yes, no liver issues last time but we’ll see what the new blood test uncovers if anything. I do think she needs an increase but I worry about the pm cycle because if she eats so much less she’ll drop much lower :banghead: how long do I wait to increase her back up, 7 days?

thanks lady! :bighug:

Her +2 numbers in the PM cycle are kind of flat. Almost the same as pre-shots. (Within meter variance.)

Which is good, because those numbers tell you she isn't going to dive down too much when that happens.
Miss Bouncy cat is bouncing again today looks like. I’m going to wait to do the curve so I’m hoping for Sunday now. Maybe all the baby food? I didn’t catch any low drops so not sure what happened...

Also, she pulled her ear when I was testing earlier and I thought I had a good grip but didn’t and we got a little bit of a slashed ear now. I want to give it time to heal so I can do both years on curve day. I feel horrible but it stopped bleeding right way with the Neosporin. I don’t know how she doesn’t hate me by now. Unconditional love I suppose :(

They KNOW we are trying to help them.

I would not go past Sunday without a dose increase. Curve or no curve, looks like Minnie is ready for a dose increase, back to 3U come Monday at the latest. You don't want to hold a dose too long, or a cat's body gets used to those higher numbers.

I know they truly do :bighug:

Okay I’ll try to do even a half curve if I can’t do every 2 hours I just want to give a chance for the bounce to stop hopefully by tomorrow, but I should be able to test that ear on a different spot by then too

Because of course Miss Minnie has to keep us all in our toes. BG last night was just about 200 then it jumped pretty high at the +2 after food, but she wouldn’t eat her before bedtime meal at 10pm right after the test, so overall had one less meal last night. (I did try Parmesan btw. It worked the first time but not last night :() This am her preshot was below 200 but still pretty close so I gave her her regular dose since she ate fine. I’m feeding her again at +2 so going to test again at +4 and +7, but I’m not so sure I should increase dose now. Wdyt?

PS - Oh yeah, woke up at 4:45 to some vomiting but gave her the med then and she ate fine at 7:30 so the ondansetron really just doesn’t get her through the entire night but it works once she has it in her system

Nvm, earlier post I’m doing a curve. Didn’t plan to but she’s been very mellow about it and I need peace of mind because now it looks like she may need a decrease and not increase. I did +2&+4 so far and just got an 83 at +4 even with a meal at +2 :banghead::nailbiting::banghead:
No need to respond, I’ll touch base tonight or tomorrow am when the curve is done

Mellow Minnie? Ok.

But she got that 46 at +6 which is an automatic dose reduction. Even though Minnie has been diabetic > 1 year, any cat that drops into the 40's is due for a reduction. On SLGS protocol to boot! Still means a reduction of 0.25U in the dose.

What do you mean no need to respond? With that 46, I sure hope Minnie ate for you. We have a saying here, one of many.
"Feed the 40's."

I see you have another post going, and got some responses already from other folks.

p.s. Trying to work on my taxes, so signed off the message board and haven't checked in for hours.

Yes she ate I added that to the other post and I just have her 3 meow mix irrestables too. But was the 46 accurate or was it higher? How can we be talking about increasing and suddenly it’s decrease? Omg it drives me crazy :banghead::banghead::banghead:

she was mellow until she wasn’t anymore ha!

many tips for me with the ReliOn? I didn’t realize it requires more blood:mad: and I can’t scoop up the blood with the strip like I do with the freestyle :(
