Hi all

So i've already stalled already as his first # pmps was 92 and now 25 min later we are at 88...

Now that i'm fully understanding SLGS ... should I reduce his dose now 2x since he eared a reduction yesterday and then one now ?? So go 6.5 units ???

i can watch and monitor all night long. lots of supplies and food

I've done the 6.5 units. I wasn't fully understanding SLGS

so when his nadirs have drop under 90 at any time during his cycle when I've checked him that earns a reduction right there for the next shot...

Am I understanding this correctly ???

Yes, anytime he goes under 90, you reduce the dose if following SLGS. The 0.5 unit reduction if over 5 units isn't documented in SLGS - as not so many kitties following SLGS and with higher doses.

I'm also wondering if/ how it can work is that now suddenly the insulin and his body are working together will and can we eventually work our way back down to say 1 unit of lantus ... just by every time I get a preshot lower than 90 I reduce dose .25 ? I know it can and would take a long time but is that something that can happen and just slowly his body will require less and less insulin...
The answer to this question depends in part on why Ramone needs a higher dose. If he has IAA, the antibodies do go away around 1 year after diagnosis, and it's been 10 months now. If he has acromegaly, then it could be the benign pituitary tumour is slowing down.

okay i see, do you think I should get him tested for this... even with his #'s improving like they have ? Do you know the approx cost to get these tested in Canada. I know the tests go off to a university in the states. I will talk with my vet tomorrow and see if I can get a quote or approx costs. Ive asked her if we should get these tests done previously but she didn't think they were necessary yet...

and just did +1 5.9

The costs aren't cheap in Canada. It's not so much the costs of the tests themselves but the shipping. Since I live in BC, it was more expensive for me. If he has acromegaly, it's not something that just goes away. Why don't you get a quote first.

I'm in BC too.. oh well. I will get a quote and see what she says.

Ok so right now Ramones +5 is 4.0 / 72

Based on this and SLGS - this would mean I can reduce his dose again tonight to 6 units ??

Sorry just feel like I always need verification before I do anything!

and if and when Ramone's dose get to 5 units - then I would start to reduce by .25 each time ? Is that correct ?

I see a 3.3/59 on the spreadsheet. I'd go ahead and reduce again. We don't usually do back to back reductions, but I suspect you've broken through some glucose toxicity, and when that happens, you can see some rapid dose drops. Don't worry about asking - reductions are new to you! :)

And yes on going back to 0.25 units changes below 5 units.

Yes he’s keeping me on my toes today.

ok so reduce 2x today so shoot 5.5 units tonight most likely unless he is continuing these lows??

Yes, just go down to 6.0 units tonight.

Okay thanks...

I just checked him again 2 hours later and he's back down to 3.1 again.... I've given some food. His PM shot is due in 3 hours I hope his #'s rise up a bit

IF he doesn't move out of the 3-4's , i should probably skip tonight ??
