? What is the no shot number?

It depends on the situation, which method (TR vs SLGS), and with ketones lurking in the background we are more aggressive than the base recommendations. Usually, we keep moving the no-shoot threshhold down gradually as you gather more data.

I see a 155 on your spreadsheet. I think that is safe to shoot, as long as you can monitor this morning. How do you feel about that?

I totally agree with Nan... there is no "hard and fast" no-shoot number. It's totally dependent on your knowledge of your cat, and your comfort level with - and ability to monitor and treat - possible low numbers.

Thank you . I did shoot and have been monitoring. I do feel like I'd be worried to do that at night due to sleeping thoug .

Also his ketones today and every day prior has been .3 or less on a blood meter ... that is considered negative right

With SLGS, you don't shoot below 90. Anything above that, it depends on how much data you have to shoot lower. Anytime you get a number you aren't comfy with, post and ask for help deciding.

He's moving up... Can you monitor tonight, with plenty of supplies? This is basically the number you shot this morning, and he had a nice safe day in decent numbers.

Your spreadsheet isn't updated-- did you get any numbers between the 94 and the 128?

What about a half dose tonight? It still re-sets the cycle count at 0 (like a skip), but doesn't skip entirely in a ketone-prone cat.

It is your call.

No worries Julie, you are doing great. It is very hard to get used to lower preshots, we have all been there. You may not need to stay up all night, most of us find a +2 will tell us a lot about what the cycle will be like.

I retested at 930 - he was 155 . I fed and shot the regular dose .
If I remember correctly - if his +2 is not a big drop I should be good ?

+2 same as pre-shot - normal cycle - down to nadir and back up
+2 lower than pre-shot - warning that cat may go much lower later - monitor more
+2 higher than pre-shot - signals a bounce, take a break from monitoring

Its really hard for me to stay up all night with two young kiddos so it worries me
I don't have kids (yet) so can't understand what that's like however I am one who doesn't function at all without sleep so my strategy is to set alarms in the middle of the night if I am worried and think I may need to monitor. I try and keep my shot schedule at 6am/6pm which gives me several hours to get at least one reading before bed (anywhere between +2 and +4) and that's usually a good indicator on whether I need to monitor. As you gather more data you'll become more comfortable with the lower numbers and have a better idea of how he'll react/handle it - and you'll get more sleep!

What does the bounce mean ? I feel like hes higher at +2 alot

He’s likely getting a food spike. Max often did so for him a +3 let me know if he was going to have an active cycle. I think onset is a bit later like Max and a food bump is what you are seeing.

I was just peeking at your SS, thinking we were close to +2. Depending on what you are feeding, he may decide to stay in the 200s, he may not be so used to getting into the 90s yet. He did have a great day , if you happen to be up for another hour yet, a +3 would say for certain if he's hanging in the 200s, and then you'd be pretty safe to get to bed. I can't see him coming down sharply tonight, but again, I feed minimeals so if Smokey isn't snacking much after you go to bed, that makes your situation a little different than mine.

I've been feeding mini meals since his food strike he went on as well ... I've been doing 4 meals (3 oz each) ... morning shot, lunch, evening shot, and night time snack ( which i just did )

Have you tried/is it available for you the friskies pate with extra gravy? I've found my opinionated cat considers it a gravy food and licks it up while still not touching the regular pate.

friskies pate with extra gravy
That Friskies pate with extra gravy has carrageenen and guar gum as thickeners to make the "Extra Gravy". No starch ingredients.

It''s low in carbs, and some cats do better with a bit higher carb content. Sometimes the lowest carb food can actually contribute to the blood glucose levels being higher.
