2/28 Walter AMPS 638 PMPS 489

Oh Walter! Whatever are you doing way up there on the moon? This time I think you've gone past the moon. He sure has a great liver doesn't he? Totally dumping every ounce of stored sugar....goodness!

I hope he comes down soon...and levels off. Sometimes these kitties need a while before they settle down...looks like Walter is a good example of supercat and his trampoline!

Have a good day Zelda!

Wow--but this is crazy! He's now at 535. Sigh.

I know it's frustrating to see these big ole bounces...

Two things come to mind; use a human meter, the numbers look better than on the AT2 and think about switching to Levemir. I believe the recommendation is to use Lantus for at least 6 months before switching...which I think you've done...just my two cents worth. Lev is famous for smoothing out those big bounces....at least it appears to have worked for Luci.

Thanks Sue. I'll ask the vet about Levemir--sounds like a good alternative. I've thought about switching to a human meter but it took me so long to figure out the AT2--not sure I can start over at this point! But will definitely consider it. Really appreciate your help!

I switched over, Zelda. The human meters work the same way. I use the Freestyle Lite - it's made by the same company as Alphtrak so there are a lot of similarities (even the strips look alike). The Freestyle Lite meter feels a better quality - the Alphatrak felt like cheap plastic to me although you spend an arm and a leg on the strips. The Freestyle Lite also requires a small amount of blood just like the Alphatrak. You can get a monitor for free when you purchase the strips. I'm not pushing 1 meter over the other but in case you want it, here is an online coupon for the free meter

Thank you! I think I should do it. Unfortunately, I just bought three boxes of the strips from chewy but I’ll wait till I go through them and then start with the new meter. You’re right —these strips cost a small fortune.
