Absolutely not. You test enough to know what her BG is doing. Your meter will give you a weekly and monthly average. Spend your $$ at the vets for more important tests. I have NEVER had one at my vets.

Is your SS on your phone where you can show her your tests ?
Tell her of the hundreds of cats that have gone into remission on Lantus. Bubba is one of them.

Yaaaa I think I need to find a new vet... the only reason I brought her back here is because she’s holistic and she does lymphatic drainage.

she’s telling me to get a mixture of different kinds of homeopathic things to give her to help with the diabetes and keep a healthy pancreas. Maybe I’ll ask you guys what you guys give, because she’s still insisted on a fructosamine to get the “a1c1”

Nope, you don’t need it! Your SS and meter knows where her numbers have been for the last weeks/ months. Put your $$ to better use.

First, if this vet is telling you that a fructosamine is the same as an "a1c1." there is no such thing. The human test is a hemoglobin A1c (HgA1c). While the results are similar to fructosamine (i.e., they give you an average of BG levels across several weeks), they are not the same tests. Since you have much more data than an average, there is no need to get a fructosamine level. You could add up 3 weeks of test data and calculate an average.

since I have some of you tagged quick- If I was to go away, can I pre measure out Mimis syringes for the person that would care for her? Im also going to show them how to get a reading. She's a really good patient.

yea and the meter does a pretty good job too!
according to her meter- her average for 7, 14 and 30 days is about 185.

Oh! The vet also said she was surprised she’s not also on short acting insulin because that is what her father is on... what is she talking about?
