2/4 AMPS 173 PMPS 205 Confused about Io's numbers today

Since Io's AMPS was so low I was really surprised to see his +5 and +7 be higher? Also, just wondering in general how his numbers are looking, I still dont really know what patterns I'm looking for or anything.

Which protocol are you following? SLGS or TR?

Sometimes kitties go up before they go down - and all around...

Have you posted to this forum or another previously? It would be helpful if you could copy/paste the url from your last post into the top of this one so we have some history :)

It also appears that you give a lower dose based on a pre-shot number? We really don't do that - we dose based on the lowest number (nadir)...so unless there's a really low pre-shot number (lower than 50, for instance) there's no reason to not give the usual dose - unless of course kitty has earned a reduction (usually in the previous cycle, from going too low)...

Have you reviewed the stickies at the top of this forum for information on the protocols? SLGS/TR it might be time to start thinking about a dose increase.

I did that based on this

I've read through them a few times and am thinking tr, but I havent spoken to my vet yet about anything with that. They know Im home testing so I think they're just letting me be? Im just really confused how you know when to increase the dose and how to know when to decrease the dose.

Your vet isn't going to understand much about any of this unless he's an endocrinologist...

Once you've decided on a protocol you'll see that is how we determine when to increase; on TR you can increase every 6 cycles until you start to see numbers under 100 (greens)...if you're on SLGS you can increase every 14 cycles until you start to see numbers under 100.

I think it would be best to read through both of them carefully and based on your schedules and ability to test (TR does require a bit more frequent testing and NO dry food)...and SLGS is slower and better suited to those who cannot test as often...TR is more aggressive and has a better chance of getting kitty to remission than SLGS - both are very good protocols and you can begin with one and switch to the other as you become more experience with all of this.

The first step has already been taking by joining this group and posting! Keep posting every day a new condo and ask for help! There are a lot of very kind and helpful people here who are willing to support you along the way :)

What determines a cycle? I work from home so Im able to test readily throughout the week. I usually have one weekend away/month and my dad is willing to watch Io, but im not sure if he'll be able to test as frequently on that Saturday in Sunday. Is TR out of the question then?

Each cycle is 12 hours. The amount of insulin you give will depend on the nadir, lowest point in the cycle, and which method you choose. Since you work from home I’d read about TR as it’s the one that gives the best chance at remission. I think you could still do TR with modifications for the weekends you are away. There’s nothing wrong with doing SLGS though. Many go into remission with it as well and you are getting a good response to Lantus.
