01/26 - Clarence AMPS 147, now +8 101, +11 152

Hi, Clarence was getting 1.5 units of Lantus and on 1/24 I increased him to 1.75. The first day of the increase he had some nice blues and then a pretty large bounce. He's been a bouncy kitty for sure in the past.:( I hoped switching from Vetsulin to Lantus would maybe help with the bouncing.

This morning he surprised me with an AMPS of 147. I tried to stall to see if it would go above 150 but it didn't and I went ahead and fed him and gave him his dose of 1.75 (I don't like him not getting any) and knowing that I could monitor him today and figuring I would get an idea of when I can and can't give him insulin.

Well, he had another nice run of blue and the last time I tested at +8.4 he was at 101 and acting hungry. I gave a small amount of food hoping it might bring him up a tiny bit so he wouldn't have a huge bounce from these lower numbers.

Now I'm hoping his PMPS isn't gonna be even lower than his AMPS. Any ideas of what to do if his PMPS is lower that the AMPS? I'm not sure how much monitoring I'll be able to do tonight (I take meds that make it hard to wake up in the night).

I would appreciate any thoughts on how to best handle this. His PMPS is coming up rather quickly.

Thanks from me and Clarence for any help!

I think as long as he is over 150 at PMPS it should be ok to shoot. Especially if you can monitor. If he is lower than 150 you could stall for 20 mins if your schedule allows it and shoot if he comes up above 150.

If you can’t change your shooting schedule there is always the option of shooting a reduced dose instead of a full dose. The sticky recommends 10-25% of the usual dose. I would only do this if you can monitor tonight.

For the best advice I would post again at PMPS for advice based on his actual numbers. Oh! And throw ? Icon at the beginning of your title so it gets more attention!

I know it can be scary when you get into these lower numbers but Clarence looks awesome today! A beautiful surf at the beach!!

Lantus is great at keeping low preshots nice and flat. But it can takes some getting used to, and you do want to gather data to know it's safe to shoot those lower numbers. Today was a great opportunity for that, so well done shooting that 147. :) If you want to have a little time to get some responses to help you, you could always get a +11 and see where he is then.

Here is the link to your last post here, http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/1-19-clarence-pmps-103-questions.224536/ we includes those links so it's easy for people helping you to see what happened previously:

Thanks Amanda! Yes, I was pleased with his surfing today! But a bit cautious because Lantus is new to me. I read that sticky so many times but I guess I needed some reinforcement, so decided to post here. I'm sure to get a BOUNCE out of his day at the beach, I just don't know when it will show up!

We thank you!

Mowgli is the same way! He’s been bouncing almost every day for the past week!! I hope Clarence gets another good night of surfing! I think Wendy’s idea of getting a +11 is a really good one! You’ll get a sense of what the PMPS will be abs you’ll have a little breathing room to get advice before the shot!

Thanks, and Thank you for the kudos, Wendy. I was nervous doing it, but tested him a lot to make sure he was safe. He will repay me for all the testing by giving me a big bounce, I'm sure. :D

A question for you, I don't see a dose amount for last night on the spreadsheet?
I see that, I'm not sure where it went. My laptop is very sensitive and sometimes it my sleeves move the cursor around and I end up deleting stuff I don't mean to. Really annoying and inconvenient. Thanks for letting me know. I'll get it fixed right away!

Yes, I will get a +11 and see where he is. I hope he isn't way up there, but it wouldn't surprise me! It would totally be nice if got some more time surfing

Got it fixed and thank you for noticing that. It might have gone unnoticed by me for awhile. I don't know if it was me being tired and not putting it in or if I deleted it somehow, but either way it is corrected. :)
