Roo seems to be doing okay on the new dose, no yellows since that bounce after the lime! Hoping for a green sometime soon :D

Now that Roo is getting better and regulated, I wanted to ask about my feeding schedule and amount. I used to feed him much more when he was in the pinks, over 3 cans per day, but now that we're in mostly blues I've been lowering him down to what his healthy calorie intake would be (200 for a 10lb cat said the vet) since I did notice him gaining some weight since his last vet visit in July when he was at optimal weight.

So I currently feed 0.5 cans FF at shot time, and then 0.25 cans at each +4 and +8 for a total of 2 cans FF a day, 96 calories each, spread out over 6 meals. In addition, he gets some Purebites chicken at test times and random other times when I'm home.

Is this enough food and a good schedule for him? I do want to make sure I'm feeding enough but not too much to where he gets too chunky either. He definitely has stopped begging for food every time I go in the kitchen (just half the times now :joyful:) and doesn't scarf like he used to when unregulated, but has always been food motivated so I'm not sure what part of that was the diabetes vs. him just loving to eat lol

Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated :bighug:

I don’t have any insight into the feeding but I had to drop by and say: Roo is looking great!! Awesome!

How are you finding TR?

Thanks Amanda!

I'm really liking TR! I'm so glad I switched because I would have had some reductions earned a bit too soon on SLGS I think. Sticking with that 1u until the lime gave him a really awesome stretch of blues and greens that I for sure wouldn't have gotten using SLGS. Hopefully it means he's on his way to healing and we can spend some more time in the nice numbers :D:cool: There have definitely been some not so ideal late nights, but I was a paranoid over tester on SLGS anyways so that comes in handy :joyful::joyful:

Do you have a scale to feed Roo? A cat’s caloric requirements also depends on the cat, and how active they are. I weighed regularly to see if the calories were what they should be. It’s good you know what his optimal weight is.

As for feeding, it’s good to try to avoid too many carbs after nadir. At that point, the insulin effect is fading, and adding carbs can shorten duration, and give you higher preshots. Spreading out meals is good, do you have something lower carb for later in the cycle? Having said that, he is looking pretty flat.

Question on the spreadsheet, it shows 0.75 units in the AM and 1 unit at night?

Thanks for catching the typo Wendy, updated in the spreadsheet! We were at 1u for a while so it became habit to type that in.

I don’t have the scale but will definitely consider getting one, I believe I saw some baby scale recommendations floating around somewhere, will search and find.

I don’t have anything lower carb than what I usually feed which is FF turkey and giblets. According to the chart that is 2% - is that too much carbs for after nadir? Anytime I feed Friskies (5%) for meals when he’s lower, I usually put the FF in the feeder for the +8 so it’s less carbs later in cycle.

I can switch schedules to something like +3 and +6 maybe? But I didn’t know if it was okay for him to go the whole 6 hours after that without anything to eat.
