Hi Edye!
Welcome to you and Orson! There is a lot of information here but don’t feel overwhelmed, there’s a lot of people here who can help you learn along the way.
One of the first things you should do here is to read the stickies at the top of the forum. Firstly the sticky on how to handle a hypo event so that you can be prepared for the possibility of dangerously low Blood Glucose (BG) levels. secondly the sticky about Tight Regulation (TR) and Start Low Go Slow (SLGS) these are the two different dosing methods that we follow for Lantus.
TR is a more aggressive method with more frequent dose changes and more frequent BG testing. SLGS is a more cautious method for people who can’t test as much due to other life commitments, as well as for people who haven’t transitioned their cats to wet food. Have a look at the descriptions of the two methods and see which one works for you, once you decide add it to your signature so that members here can offer you the most appropriate advice.
Great job setting up your signature by the way... it looks great! The last piece that we like to add to it is a link to a spreadsheet for Orson that tracks his BG levels. There is a sticky on how to set one up
HERE. No pressure to do it straight away, but it is super helpful for anyone who would like to offer advice, as well as for you to notice Orsons insulin reaction patterns.
Orson is super cute! So handsome!! looking forward to seeing his posts on the board
